Well I don't know if that is a valid comparison...but I wonder...

I have to admit...the new ZO6 that I keep reading about has some interesting numbers, including that curb weight...spectacularly close to the NSX...that makes for a very fast car...all that for under 70 grand!

Chrysler with its Hemi....the Viper coupe...the Ford GT...new SVT...I think its a horsepower war....

I wonder how they are all going to be able to put all that power to the ground...can't beat physics!

315 wide tires for the rear on the new Z06, and given that it's actually a track car, going with slicks or R compounds of comparable size should help in managing all that power on the track. Other than that a good traction control system for the street should take care of things.

Just my 2 cents.

And your point is??

I was just thinking out loud...hoping Honda listens to forums...but at least understand what they are up against when it comes to the new NSX...if they ever consider building a newer one...I hope they stay with NA and lite weight application...I think its all about displacement and power-weight ratios...and I think GM has got it with the new ZO6...IMHO.

This NSX vs Z06 has been discussed at nauseum, there is no question that horse power war is on and Honda is not even in sight. It is pretty pathetic, maybe Honda does have something up its sleeve for '07-'08, but at that time everyone will have up the ante again. They will need to come out with a supercar that has 500hp and keep it at <3000 curb weight. I hope they will be developing the F1 v10 for the next gen NSX or whatever they will call it. I remember 6-8 months ago that Honda stated that they are working on the next gen NSX and Quote " There will be no rival." Does anyone remember that. I could of swore they were going with a hybrid sports car of some sort, because only then there would really be no rival but now I'm not sure. Right now Honda is eating their words and it really is sad. Like everyone I hope they bring to the table a legitimate contender, to once again reign the supercar world, but right now I doubt it.

On another note, I think we will be seeing alot more FI NSX in the next couple of years.

Are you talking NSX vs. current Z06 of new one?

A high-boost CTSC should be able to hang with the current Z06, but it won't have a chance in hell vs the C6 Z06.

Mark911's Eaton SC might be able to do it though. It makes a LOT of power and TQ. Time will tell how that set-up will be. I think it is awesome.

Probably a really well tuned BBSC will hang with the current Z06, but again not the new one.

Only the JGTC and Factor X turbo cars have a realy shot at the new Z06 IMO.

A shot????? Please. 500HP/ftlbs at the crank vs. 550/550+ at the wheels, same weight. Upgraded suspension and BBK, I wouldn't waste my gas on a C6 Z06. On the paper or on the track, I am willing to bet, Especially since I have seen the skunk works dept for the Z06, that the Z06 would not hang with the GJTC or The FX500 with the built motor. Mark911's Car will probably trounce it. Until I see dyno Numbers for the C6 Z06, I am not buying any of their HP BS. Look at the Current Z06 numbers vesus GM's claimed numbers.
Mallet took the old Z06 and added a Supercharger and it wasn't all that.
Ask O-ace, his car is built like crazy, about the true numbers of Z06's.
Again talking from experience on all ends except the Z06 ((C6) Not out yet))
Equal driver, the CTSC 6lb kit runs with the current Z06 with ease. They drop what 200lbs and add 45hp and it's the new monster. I aint buyin it.
You better add FI to the C6 Z06 to even talk about running with the big boys. Plus I predict the car to have major overheating problems. Yes I am talking smack, simply because I can. Bring on the damn Enzo.
C6 Z06, please.

In case you didn't catch it. I friggin hate Corvette's, as much as I like the new Z06, I hate Corvettes. I saw the new Vette Yesterday, I gave him fits in my wife's 4 door SUV.

Back on topic.

In car and drivers supertuner shoot out, the stock Z06 was faster than the comptech suped up NSX with 9lbs kit from 100-150MPH. NSX was about 18 seconds and Z06 was 15 seconds. Why would the Z06 be faster when the SC NSX has a better power/weight ratio? Would the bodykit slow the car down at higher speed? high Cd?

I think it is quite obvious in that shootout that there was something wrong with the Comptech car. I haven't looked, but is the Z06 3 seconds faster than the stock NSX? What were the gearing differences? Were there any?
Was the CT NSX geared with stock gears or short gears? Again, so many variables.

All I am saying is, I want to see the true #'s of the Z06, other than from a biased perception, sort of like absolute audio. The real deal if you will. Having been in a Z06 a Mallet (500hp ver.), and a NSX with the CTSC 6lb kit, all on the same track with the same pro driver. The Z06 was not faster than the NSX, nor was the Mallet. The NSX pulled on the Z06 on the straight. The Mallet was pro equipped and was a tick or to faster than the NSX aound the same track. (Putnam and Topeka) This was attributed to the Big Brakes of the Mallet, and the Stock brakes of the NSX.
Since we did not have a bevy of each car to test, My witnessed times, could also be challenged with the "Variables" thingy.

I am not sure.

In the article they said the CTSC NSX did 100-150 8 seconds faster than a stock 97. The highest trap speed on the CTSC was 117MPH in the 1/4. That is pretty fast for a CTSC NSX. It just seems to be pretty weak from that point to 150.

I can't see how that NSX could possibly be slower than a stock z06. It was also a lot slower than the 911 turbo -- which should also have a very similar HP/weight ratio.

What the?

Not this again! Years ago, someone  started a thread about this. With over 300 replies, the topic was discussed to death. Now you’re telling us you are no closer to understanding the substandard numbers?

Hehhehehehe.... Funny how some things never change :)

I am on page 5 of the old thread. So far very very little of it was the CTSC performance. It was a pretty wild thread though! We haven't seen one like it in a long time.

guys, if Honda came out with the new NSX, and it looked EXACTLY like what the new Z06 looks like (assuming GM didnt come out with it as well) and had the same performance....you would be proud. As long as it was mid engine haha.

Just my guess at the "end of the day."

Well, the 14'' brakes don't hurt either. This isn't a LS2 pushing 400hp...the NSX owner that just bought one ran a 12.8@113mph or something like that there was a post about it.

This is a 427CI'' motor with drysump, titanium rods, 2.2'' valves that's huge it will be putting down a underrated 500bhp. In fact I'll bet it will put down 460-407rwhp we will no soon enough.

I do like to believe that a CTSC NSX will hang with a new Zo6, but I just don't see it being a reality.

Quite a range there.. 460 to 407 rhwp.

Nonetheless, there is no way on earth a 6lbs NSX will keep up with the new Z06 IMO.

Supposed to be 470rwhp..fat fingered it.

Do you know what the current Z06 puts to the wheels. I had heard it was around 330-340.

Couldn't agree more.

ROFLMAO..

You made me spill my coffee, Len!

When I get home, I will post some pics of the Mallet Vette I ran into on the 10 Freeway. He was actually a pretty cool guy. We had a little fun up to about 120 (Empty Freeway stretch between El Paso and Fort Stockton)

Also saw about 4 truckloads of Convertible C6's.

Griffen, Hope you didn't burn yourself with the Coffee.

Tom- It's good to have agreement, yes?

The Z06 does not even have a chance against the GJTC or our FX500. We run from pro-charged Z06's like they are standing still. This also includes the pro-charged Vipers. The Twin Turbo vipers or the occasional Meth Viper we see are another story:) There are regular meets here in Vegas where the only cars that show up have in excess of 500+rwhp (Mostly Supras,Vipers,Z06,Hyabusas,Cobras,AMGs,M's,etc.) The Lingenfelter twin turbo from the Car and Driver Shootout trailered his car out only to get embarrassed by a Supra. The car went straight back to LF. The only real exceptions are the Ferraris/lambos, but they dont have a shot either. The NSX weight and aero combo are a huge advantage at higher speeds. Many people in the community frown upon the straight line type races, however the straight line races are the finest illustrations of the type of power you are making.

Len might recall this; At our local track we have a Dynapack dyno in the paddock. During HPDE events you can slap a few bucks down and get a dyno. During a Porsche event, a Z06 w/headers & exhaust went on the dyno and the best he could muster was 336 rwhp.
