You are invited to a July 9th Hosted BBQ at Acura of Stockton

Gents,

NSXVURGEN and I were originally planning to meet in Brentwood and hook up with the rest of the group in Dublin.

There is a brand new hospital/clinic down the street from where I'm at where we were going to meet that has a huge parking lot. It's a couple of miles from Hiway 4 at the corner of Balfour and the Hiway 4 bypass.

As an option, if it's not a logistical nightmare to get there, it might make a good staging point for the final leg into Stockton along a nice levee road on the 4. As DinanM3 mentioned earlier, Hiway 12 may not be a good option. There will be lots of RV's, trailered boats (you WILL get stuck behind one) and drawbridges which will be opened for busy river traffic. I've already lost three windshields from rocks through there also.

Bottom line: if the meeting point is in Walnut Creek, the 680/4/160/12 route is the most uncomplicated route until you reach I-5. The Hiway 4 route from Walnut Creek calls for a little bit of in town driving, but is a nice drive and easier to get to the dealership once you reach I-5.

My thoughts would be to stay with Nalesh's original plan to meet in Dublin. It would be easier to keep us together for the trip over. Hopefully the traffic won't be bad. Afterwards, it's open season as far as drives and other activities.

I'm just along for the ride....but as I told rowr earlier, I had originally planned to head out Old Hwy 4, it's a Levee road similar to the 160. Basically drops off in the middle of Stockton.

But I can do the 580/5 too....

RIVER RUN!! So what they have the big chucks on the road, i'm sure they be glad to pull aside and watch the NSXs fly by.

I like the river run idea - more fun, but I have no desire to get stuck behind an RV or SUV shooting rocks at my car (and they don't pull over, been there, done that). I'm back to the plan of meeting at the Dublin BestBuy and taking the freeway over. I'll be there at 10am that morning if you want to drive over together.

I'm taking my NSX on 580-205-5 route this morning (Saturday at 10am) on my way to Sacramento. I'll post if I run into bad traffic (which I suspect I won't).

If we have a large group I suggest we go the 580-205-5 (maybe 99) route. The logistics work out well because its a straight shot and we won't lose people along the way who get stuck behind traffic (like you will find on the backroads). If you are driving alone or with only a handful of cars, the river route is easy (assuming you don't get stuck behind a slow moving car and your windshield doesn't get cracked), but with a large group its hard to keep organized.

My goal is to get to Stockton as quickly as possible and get parked so we can enjoy the BBQ and the conversation, and I think going the freeway route is the best way to do that.

Lisa and I went to Sacramento today and tested the Freeway route. We took the 580 to 205 to 5 to Hwy 99 route. Time was 10:30am, Saturday morning. Traffic - light. Got heavy at three points in Tracy where the road merged and/or there was an on/off ramp. Wait time at each heavy point was 2-3 minutes. After that it was smooth sailing. I'm still planning on doing the "Highway Run".

Now, :frown: the drive home was not so good. We just barely avoided an accident in the NSX, but we took on some damage. Mostly paint damange, except for one headlight and turn signal. Here is the story: We were on 99 South somewhere just past Grantline road. A sedan entered the fwy on 99 south at Grantline. He decided to drive on the right shoulder (in the rocks/gravel) instead of just getting on the fwy. We were in the slow lane. He passed three cars as he drove on the shoulder, then he got to us. While passing us, he kicked up rocks onto our passenger side and fender. Then he swerved in front of us to get on the fwy. He kicked up a storm of rocks from the shoulder onto my NSX hood, mirrors and windshield. He hit a tire or something on the shoulder and carried it onto the road which caused him to fishtail right, then left in front of us. Then he lost control and got sideways right in front of us. We were both in the middle lane at this time (me, trying to avoid him, and he just losing control of his vehicle). We were about to T-bone him, when I hit the brakes, and pulled right to avoid the T-bone. His momentum carried him leftward into a 180 and he smacked the freeway divider really hard. A bunch of debris and more rocks flew from his accident site and hit our NSX. We pulled over. Lisa was with me. We were not injured, but she was shaken up. The other car was bent pretty badly. We ran across the fwy to see if the other driver needed medical attention. He and his passenger were not hurt. CHP came, took reports, we came home. The good news is that nobody was hurt. My NSX took some damage, but that's nothing compared to how it could have turned out.

We got home around 1am and I saw some damage to the car. Rock chips on the fenders, hood and windshield. Front passenger turn signal cracked. Driver side headlight busted (rock shot right through it and busted a hole in it). Thats all I could see at this late hour. I'll check for damage to the doors in the morning when there is some light. I'm meeting with insurance on Monday to file my claim. Hopefully my car is not in too bad of shape and I'll have it back by the July meet. If not, I'll roll with the wifey's Lexus.

What a night.

Sorry to hear that Nalesh - but I like to always focus on the positive - the most important features came away relatively unscathed - you & Lisa!
Glad you're both OK
biggthum.gif

Hope you gave the cops the real story ........

My NSX "event" earlier this week was not quite as hurting - got a ticket! (82 in 65) - my first in about 17 years! (other than a dumb car-pool lane violation)
After he gave it to me he was really chatty - asking me all about the car - too bad he didn't want to chat first - he maybe would have softened the blow!

Hey Nalesh! I'm so glad to hear that you and Lisa were ok after that horrific incident!!! As much as we love our beloved NSX's they can always be repaired/replaced. Hopefully your NSX will be fixed in time for the meet-up.

I am also leaning towards the "highway run" to the dealer so I'll drive in with you Nalesh. After Redwood Road I think I have had my share of rock chips for a while. :frown: Can't wait for the 9th!!!

Ditto sentiments Nalesh.

And look at even the brighter side for July 9th. You don't need to worry about any new rock chips coming from that busy industrial route, no need to pop the headlights in daytime (though 12 requires it), so just bring the NSX as is and have fun driving it to the event with the cravan; and we will overlook all those rock chips and consider them as part of character building. And you may even get some detailing pointers/test run on your car

Holy Crap Nalesh! Glad to hear you and Lisa are ok! What was that a$$hat in the sedan thinking? Hopefully things will get resolved quickly and without any drama...

Charles

Having grown up in Stockton, lived in the east bay for 20 years, and routinely visit my parents, who live a few minutes from the Acura dealership, I thought I could provide info on various routes. (all directions are form 580/680). I've had much experience trying to avoid the 580/205 parking lot during commute hours and on holidays.

1st Option - Highway (50-55 minutes if no traffic)
580 east
merge onto 205 east - the 205 parking lot
merge onto 5 north
take highway 4 east (freeway over Stockton connecting 5 and 99)
merge onto 99 north
exit Hammer lane west to the Acura dealership (1-2 miles)

As noted there may be traffic delays on Saturday mornings but this is rare. However July 9th is the weekend after the 4th so who knows.

Whatever we do do not take I-5 to Hammer lane and travel through Stockton - stop lights every few feet

2nd Option - Paterson Pass (add 25-35 minutes)
Patterson pass road connects Livermore and the valley. It's a twisty narrow kick ass fun driving road. Only potential downside is if we get stuck behind a slow truck/car. This is the road we take on Thanksgiving day to vist the parents and there is no traffic then.
580 east
exit Vasco road south
left turn on (I think) Patterson Pass road - it's the 1st road after the bridge over the train tracks.
continue through Greenville Rd (now the fun begins)
Patterson Pass connects with 580 south of the 205 parking lot
go south on 580 to 132 (to avoid 205)
east on 132 (about 4 miles)
north on 5 (wave and smile to the 205 parking lot folks when you pass the merge)
take highway 4 east (freeway over Stockton connecting 5 and 99)
merge onto 99 north
exit Hammer lane west to the Acura dealership (1-2 miles)

3rd Option - Highway 4
There are many options to get to 4 from 580/680
1) go 680 to 242 (Concord) to 4 - this is ok if you are in Walnut Creek but not from 580/680
2) take 580 to Vasco - head north on Vasco toward Brentwood, merge onto Walnut Rd, and then right on Marsh Creek Rd, which linkls up with 4
3) take 580 over Altamont, exit Grant Line Rd (right before the 205 parking lot) and head north, it turns into Mountain House, take Mountain House to highway J4 north, to Highway 4.
If everyone followed that we are now on 4 near Discoverey Bay. From here on, 4 is a narrow river road. If we get behind a slow truck everyone will be annoyed.
Take 4 to I-5
north on 5 (1 or 2 exits)
take highway 4 east (freeway over Stockton connecting 5 and 99)
merge onto 99 north
exit Hammer lane west to the Acura dealership (1-2 miles)

4th Option - Highway 12
As noted it's an ok drive provided you do not get stuck behind an RV, get stuck during a bridge raise, or get nailed by the CHP who love to hide out on Saturdays. It happened.
Take 680 north
exit 242 to Highway 4
Take 4 east toward Stockton/Antioch
Take 160 north over bridge
Take 12 east
Take I-5 south
Exit Eight Mile Rd head east for about 5 miles
South on West Lane for about 5 miles
East on Hammer Lane

Re: It's about time

There's still plenty of time to go for an even 100 ! Are you putting any pressure on the So. Cal guys?

after reviewing the "registration form" for the monthly meeting, i've decided to not complete and submit the form. i will attend to take advantage of the photo opp, but will save the dealership the expense of feeding me.

* the idea of having another high attendance meeting is great...it's very nice to see everyone and their cars in one place... wonderful eye candy!

* the idea of an acura dealership hosting an event that brings nsx owners together appeals to me, too.

* the idea of an acura dealership feeding owners appeals to me, too.

* the idea of an acura dealership getting media attention for having spent the time/energy/$'s to collect all of these cars together and feed their owners... yup, that's a good thing, too... no doubt, a fair exchange.

the disconnect i have at this point is the requirement to *complete* a registration form that *requires my home address and phone number*. in today's world of wasted resources and identify theft, i don't need:

* more junk/telemarketing phone calls during dinner (from either this dealership or whomever they loan/rent/sell the list/my name to)

or

* more junk/ mail printed up and sent to me at home

and finally, what started out to be another *great* club meeting has now morphed into a "car show" that is open to the public (i don't mind the "open to the public" part, btw)... to bring our cars to hang out with other nsx owners, we've got to register and provide personal information with a commercial entity. if i wanted to do this, i'm sure there are any number of events to participate in.

thx for the original intent of the event, but i'll attend as part of the public to take my photos.

be well, all.
hal

And there is a statement "If you do not fax it in by 30 June, don't come!" Who the hell do these dealers think they are? If I have to fax in my info just so that they can have my car there to attract more business, I am out! I intended to be there just to hang out with the gang.
Steve

Re: PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM the July 9th Hosted BBQ at Acura of Stockton

Hal, thank you for your sincere feedback. I agree with you and you articulate the pros and cons quite well.

But here is where I would have differed with your post. Rather than posting such a concern in here, why not take the initiative and call John Bissot or PM one of us and note that while you are concerned in putting personal info, that you really do not wish to be contacted for marketing purposes or solicitation - I think many of us share the same concern. But then, how about also signing a waiver also that should they offer you 30% off parts with free shipping (I am strictly speculating on my own here) henceforth you would decline purchasing any goods from them as well

Seriously, the registration was proposed by the dealer only a few days ago when the magnitude of the potential attendees far exceeded our initial estimates of about 20! But we agree with their intent, which is to flush those who are serious in attending given the logistics and the resources to be put to organize the event. And surely we all understand that ultimately there is a marketing/promotion element involved in here

Steve, for the record, the dealer was NOT the party that added if you don't fax it don't come! That was done by a club officer to keep some order and predictability given the potential swing that it might create in logistics. He forgot to add a wink or smiley.

I will be there regardless of this "required registration". And yes, I will complete the registration. I think that if the "required registration" was made aware of (early on) when the thread was started, then it wouldn't appear as though there was some kind of "attitude". It's just kind of strange that all of a sudden this came about.

Sometimes poor choices in words creates a seriously negative emotion and I do echo the feeling of WhiteNSXs reaction to "If you do not fax it in by 30 June, don't come!" There are alot of other ways to get this point across but in a nicer tone. I would suggest for them to change the wording asap before it offends others.

I think a nicer way of asking us to make sure we fill out the registration form and fax it in would be: Acura of Stockton would really appreciate it if the attending NSX owner's will fill out the registration form and fax it in before June 30th to ensure their parking place or position in this huge event.

I guess this started off as another club event and we didn't know what Acura of Stockton had in stored for us. It is very generous of them to host this event and have a BBQ luncheon for us and our guests. I didn't know that it would turn out to become a car show with awards being given out and also an escorted parade lap around Stockton. It does seem they are really going out of their way for us. I am sure they are going to get great publicity from this event but they definitely deserve it for hosting such a large event.
