Yokohama releases AD08 R

All good tires I am sure, but these are supposed to be the top shelf as new tire tech.

I did find they could be purchased and shipped from the UK for 305 pounds which works out to be about $494. Not sure if the exchange rate is helping here but each one is only 95 pounds which works out to be $153. I think I can live with that!

I am just interested in getting a set myself. Although I think I will probably go for 17" F/R wheels and keep my stock rims for winter all-seasons.
If you go 17"/17", then you can get the AD08R in the States in the '02-05 stock sizes of 215/40-17 and 255/40-17. (The Dunlop Direzza ZII is also available in those sizes.)

Tire choice is exactly why I would go with 17" F/R. At least right now, however, I can't afford wheels at the same quality level as OEM. So I remain interested in tire options for the OEM wheels.

I have an '05 with a 17"/18" set up. The prior owner had 215/40-17 and 265/35-18, Michelin Pilots (2 different types do to sizing). I have had no issues with this sizing, as I had read about some TCS issues with a 265 instead of a 255 on the later models. Assuming that I keep this sizing, I have narrowed it down to the AD08(R) and the Kumho Ecsta LE Sport. I know these are not even in the same league, so I should just get the Yokohamas and be done with it. Tire Rack still has these in the AD08. Any major differences between the AD08 and AD08R.

Thanks

I never tried the non-R version but I put the AD-08 R on for the track event at VIR and they were amazing. Great tires. My previous tires were Bridgestone RE010 that were about six years old.

There shouldn't be any TCS issues with either rear size, but the 255/35-18 is a closer match for the TCS as well as for the accuracy of the gauges. 255/35-18 has the exact same outer diameter as the stock 255/40-17, whereas the 265/35-18 is 1.1 percent bigger. Either rear size should work without any significant problems.

Anybody having issues getting these installed? Discount Tire won't install the rears saying that the load index isn't high enough.
They're just plain wrong. The load index on the 255/35-18 AD08R is 90, for a maximum load of 1323 pounds, and on the 265/35-18, it's 93, for a max load of 1433 pounds. The GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) on the NSX is 3550 pounds, and I'm not positive but I think 64 percent of that is on the rear wheels. That means the most static weight you'll have on the rear wheels is 2272 pounds, or 1136 pounds per tire. So the max load of either size exceeds the weight by 187 pounds or more.

Incidentally, the max load on the Bridgestone RE010 stock rear tires for the '94-01 NSX is 1356 pounds.

Per the sticker in the door jamb, on an '05, the rear tire max load index is a 94. So this might be a change at '02. So, its close and probably won't matter. They just won't install on the car. If I want, I can bring the wheels in and they will install, not taking any responsibility for what car they go on.

Since my car is not tracked, I'll probably just go with the Kuhmos. They're in the same max category as my current Pilot Sports.
