Was sent this link by a neighbour who was originally from Australia. The expected price for the NSX is around $400K?

http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/honda-nsx-to-cost-400kplus-20160708-gq1gx1.html

That is like double the price of the US or Canadian car. What the hell is going on in Australia? Who is going to pay that kind of money for this car?

Gaspingly shocking, way, way more than I ever imagined, even allowing for shipping costs and exchange rate etc. And of course it will be more in NZ$.

It does means a serious re-think. At least in NZ, there are no restrictions or duties for individuals importing their own cars. I'll be keeping a keen eye on the sticker prices in other RHD markets, because there is no way I'd be gifting that sort of money to Honda NZ. The car isn't THAT exotic. They're dreaming.

EDIT: I read since that Australia taxes luxury car imports at 33%, which NZ doesn't.

We are just lucky! All sorts of taxes and duty to make sure we can keep our government in the manner to which it is accustomed.....

400k sounds like a bargain compare to 495K in China. A fully optioned NSX is 680K.

By the way, first year allocations are already sold out in China.

100% or more import tariffs are not unusual in many countries. Keeps these high end toys out of reach of the whiny middle class (unlike here ).
Vote for Donald Trump and he just might "fix" this problem for us!

Lucky indeed! With the demise of Australia's car manufacturing industry, are there any plans to reduce or eliminate car import tariffs?

I'm glad there is some benefit to living in the eastern islands (NZ)

With the drop in the UK pound, a UK sticker price of UKP 130,000 looks enticing so as an example....

130,000 UK retail incl VAT
108,333 export price (less UK VAT) =
------------
193,452 in NZ dollars at today's exchange rate (.56) plus...
4,500 approx freight and insurance RORO ship to NZ =
------------
197,952 landed FOB in NZ plus...
29,693 15% Goods & Services Tax =
------------
227,645 NZ Dollars plus...
350 Vehicle Compliance Certificate to register the vehicle and drive it in New Zealand =
------------
227,995 On-Road in $NZ

So it does mean no warranty, but for the sum saved at a guess on a NZ Honda sticker price of around $300,000 to $350,000, I'd happily take the risk me thinks...

yeah the NZ price will be at least $350k, but they dont even know themselves

According to Autocar UK ( http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/2016-honda-nsx-price-revealed-£137950-new-pictures ), the UK base list price is £137,950, about 8,000 more than originally suggested.

The same article says UK's allocation is sold out for the next two to three years. Which begs a question...

In another article from AutoCar: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...models-planned , there's talk about other NXS models being considered in order to help get a return on investment on the significant development costs. If demand is as high as Honda appears to be saying, and financial return a priority, then would they not seriously consider setting up an additional assembly line or two?

Increasing production makes no sense at all.
If supply exceeds demand on the NSX it's aura of exclusivity and limited supply will disappear overnight.
The kiss of death in a limited niche market.
Better to have a long wait list at high prices.

Any news from Honda NZ on the launch? I was told that there would be an event at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell, sometime in October / November / December - anyone else heard this?
As for the price in NZD, and where it could be serviced..... who knows!

Not heard anything thus far, but your comment on Cromwell is interesting. Servicing, given our small population (about the same as greater Birmingham UK), I guess will be Auckland.

I know someone who has purchased one here in NZ and Honda has not confirmed with them

That's related to the Brexit and the British Pound imploding. Big trouble for Honda to set a list price.

For example: export price £108k = CHF 140k plus customs and taxes (maybe CHF 20k). List price in Switzerland: 200k. Still 40k more. Too bad they drive on the wrong side of the road. :)

Just released:

The Australian price of the Honda NSX has now been confirmed at $420,000 plus on-road costs, making it even more expensive than previously reported.

Just one specification will be offered in Australia, available to order today ahead of early 2017 deliveries, with all options boxes ticked as standard equipment.

The 2017 Honda NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine coupled to an advanced electric drive system, with a total system power output of 427kW and 646Nm.

Those numbers put the Japanese supercar in the same league as the Lamborghini Huracan, Audi R8, Porsche 911 Turbo and entry models from the McLaren range.

From a pricing perspective, it’s more expensive than exotics like the ageing $345,000 Maserati GranTurismo Stradale and $356,800 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, along with the new $354,900 Audi R8 V10 and $389,900 R8 V10 Plus and even the rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2 ($378,900).

The new NSX is fractionally cheaper than the all-paw Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 ($428,000) or a Ferrari 488 GTB ($469,988). And, as far as Japanese rivals go, it’s more than double the price of the current $182,500 flagship Nissan GT-R Black Edition.

Honda Australia’s pricing position for the NSX sees the car equipped with plenty of features, most of which are optional in other markets. These include the carbon-fibre exterior and interior packages as standard, along with carbon-ceramic brakes.

The NSX will also become the first hybrid supercar officially on sale in Australia.

“The all-new Honda NSX brings hypercar technology to the supercar category, as the first hybrid supercar on Australian roads,” said Honda Australia managing director, Stephen Collins.

The new NSX aims to help revive a sporting image for the Honda brand in Australia. The supercar will be supported by the upcoming Civic Type-R, which is expected towards the end of next year.

“The arrival of the Honda NSX is an important signal to our Australian customers that Honda is truly a technology and engineering company that can deliver not only efficient, well-packaged small cars, people movers and SUVs, but also a high-performance hybrid supercar,” Collins said.

The most expensive Honda to ever go on sale in Australia will be available in a range of eight exterior colours and a combination of four interior trims. The three solid colours are standard, with another three metallic colours adding a further $1500 to the price. The two hero colours are an additional $10,000.

The Honda NSX will be available nationally from just five dealers, Yarra Honda (VIC), Scotts Honda (NSW), Austral Honda (QLD), Nordic Honda (SA) and Burswood Honda (WA).

The standard equipment on the Australian delivered models includes:

Carbon Fibre exterior package:

Carbon Fibre Roof
Carbon Fibre Engine Cover
Carbon Fibre Rear Decklid Spoiler
Carbon-Ceramic Brake Rotors
Exclusive Interwoven Wheels
Carbon Fibre rear diffuser
Carbon Fibre front underspoiler
Carbon Fibre side skirts
Dark Chrome exhaust finisher
Carbon Fibre interior package:

Carbon Fibre meter visor
Carbon Fibre upper steering-wheel rim
Carbon Fibre steering wheel spokes
Brushed aluminium pedals and footrest
Other key interior features are:

Alcantara suede Headliner
Semi-Aniline Leather and Alcantara Power Seats

What, no all leather seats for that price?

at current exchange rates that is nearly $318,000 U.S. dollars.

So as I was told last year! Obviously they're not really interested in selling them in any numbers, but that pricing is just wrong. Still I suppose if the idea is to keep them on the showroom floor as long as possible I think they've succeeded?

Plus on roads:
Stamp duty $16,740 (South Australia)
Registration $861
Dealer delivery $2,000 (approx)

Drive away price:

$439,601.00

News as of 3rd August: NSX launch in NZ delayed until 2017 - price expected to be between NZ$360,000 and $370,000 (I'm assuming for that price it will be fully optioned):

I was at Continental Cars last night for the unveiling of the TDF Ferrari, they had the new California T there with the handling package and new pricing for this was starting $375k NZD so the new NSX is in the same territory as the base pack Ferrari.
I must say the handling package or whatever it's called looked quite sharp
