Wow, I just dodged a bullet! JH4NA21633T000058

Carfax does report accidents, usually when an insurance claim is involved.

Carfax gets report of an accident or event only when that event becomes public record, i.e., a police report is made, a title issued, a smog record recorded. They do this by scanning public databases. And even then they still miss a lot.

Insurance companies do not report to carfax. And why would they? It would cost them money and it serves no interest of their own.

So yes, if you wreck your car and police aren't involved, you can still file a claim with your insurance company without the accident showing up on carfax. Your insurance company could not care less if cops were involved. In fact, they'd rather them not because of the potential hassle and costs.

Really?????  Run a carfax on 1FTDF15R7RLB30205

That vehicle has been totaled 3 times. Once by me when it was brand new and 2 life flight helicopters were on the scene, so a police report was defiantly filed. Carfax will come back clean.
