Worth the trade??? NSX vs 03 Lexus IS

" I am sorry but 0-60 is 5.5 at worst in the IS350. I don't know where you got that info."

I am a new owner and by no means trying to claim that I am an expert or can verify which car is faster but I have driven both cars (is350 and nsx automatic)and honestly, to a novice like me I can't really tell which one is faster. That being said in regards to were Martin received his information it is on edmunds site as indicated in his post. The direct link is below. I know that you can't really believe everything you read and other people that tested the car will have different numbers, but I am just really trying to point out that Martin is not pulling his information from out of the air. No disrespect intended and I do apologies if I am getting of the subject.

Auto IS350's are high 13 second cars driven by amatuers. Last month my friend ran a 13.8 on his first pass with his auto/paddle shift IS350. It's a fair match against a stock manual NA1 NSX, I love NSX's but reality is reality.

I believe the auto NSX vs the IS300, especially if the races are on the freeway where the NSX shines with a superior top speed.

These cars are very different. A test drive will tell you what you need to know.

What I should say is that they are very close to a manual NSX. When he quotes 0-60 in 6 seconds or higher has me thinking he is confused with older version of the IS Lexus. A low 13's 1/4 mile is very achievable with that IS350.

Now fun factor goes to the NSX as it handles superb and it has higher top end speed. The NSX has a better engine for modding or tuning as well. My reason for wanting a NSX is those two reasons as well as collectability, looks, and coolness. I know it isn't as quick as some of today's cars but it CAN be. It also just looks badass.

If I was you..I would keep the is300 and get a good deal on 91 plus nsx.......

The lex holds its value well. Keep both over the summer, then sell if disappointed. You will not regret the NSX. Yes you can drive it daily. The car is not that fragile....just get one with major service already done....

On a different note....

I have owner or driven all the cars talked about above....

My automatic nsx would leave the is300 after 30mph by a long shot.....

My dad has 250.....the is300 is faster...

My aunt has a 350....that car feels allot faster then my auto 91 nsx.....

I have tracked 92 CTSC vs 350.....walked it down and won by 5 or more cars.....no hard launch....
No time trial....
Just for fun....two avg drivers...

If you drive the nsx you will be hooked. And the posters who say cut up cc are right.

I am looking for my third nsx in 1 year....02 plus with sc....but the prices are well over 60k for most I see.
So I may just settle for a 97 to 01 3.2 6 speed......sc

You already know what you have with the lex......

The NSX will be the cherry on top of the ice cream....

Greetings

Just a few numbers that I pulled off of some what I thought are reputable sites.

NSX numbers:
A 3.0 liter with a 5 speed will do 0 – 60 in 5.03 seconds and 13.47 seconds for the ¼ mile – This is from the NSX Wiki.
A 3.0 liter with an automatic will do 0 – 60 in 5.80 seconds and 14.4 for the ¼ mile – this is from Car & Driver.
A 3.2 liter with a 6 speed will do 0 – 60 in 4.9 seconds and 11.7 seconds for the ¼ mile – this is from rapidcars.com.

IS300 – 2004
The 3.0 liter with a manual transmission will do 0 – 60 in 7.1 seconds and 15.6 for the ¼ mile – this is from rapidcars.com.

IS 350 2006
The 3.5 liter with unknown transmission will do 0 – 60 in 6.1 seconds and 14.2 for the ¼ mile – this is from Edmunds.com. Lexus claims 0 – 60 in 5.5 seconds.

2005 330
The 3.0 liter with a manual transmission will do 0 – 60 in 6.95 seconds and 15.47 for the ¼ mile – this is from cars.com.

What I stated in my post was that my NSX will easily beat the IS300 and a BMW 330 (I did not mention a 335 – have never raced one, since I don’t race anyone very often). I beat my neighbors IS350 automatic (2007) all 3 times that we dashed them – maybe a couple of car lengths each time. It was very reproducible.

The numbers above are for standard – non-modified cars. The results I have experienced show the numbers are in line. That is all I said in my original post

My NSX had some tweaking performed on it before I bought it – I am the second owner. I spoke with the people at the Acura dealership who did the work. The mechanic remembered it well since it was the only automatic that they had ever “ponied up”. They did some work strengthening the tranny too. The car was not dyno’d, but he thought it would have somewhere between 270 and 280 HP – a 10% increase over a standard automatic. I have not dyno’d it since I purchased it.

The IS300 with premium sound has a hell of a lot better stereo than the NSX.

Cheers,
Martin
