Will this water pump work for my 91 5-spd?

Hi all,

New NSX owner in the Phoenix area here (formula red '91). Looking forward to meeting other owners and enthusiasts.

Anyway, the car needs the 60k mile service, and I'm trying to save $$$ where I can. I found the following water pump on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1851169903

Do any of you know if this is a good deal, and more importantly--will work in my car? I don't want to waste $50 on a damaged/incorrect/remanufactured part.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

My advice would to buy a factory Acura water pump. The labor charge is what is expensive. The factory water pump isn't cheap but I would feel better with it rather than take a chance with a non factory part.

It looks like an NSX water pump <g>. As far as I know, there are two styles that fit the NSX—the “old” and the “new”. I believe the old style is discontinued. The new style has weep nipple that requires a different or modified lower t-belt cover (Updated timing cover 11810-PR7-A02 ~$130). I’m not sure when Acura made the change to the new style water pump and cover. The pump for sale on ebay appears to be the old style pump (I’m about 67.6% sure). You may want to get the part number from the seller to aid in identification.

The pump on eBay is a good deal if it is the old style pump (NOS) and you have the old style t-belt cover; OR it is the new style pump. If it is the old style pump and you have the new style cover then it is probably not a good deal. I’m not sure which model years have the new style cover.

Please let us know if you get a part#.

Good luck,
DanO

FYI,

That is the original 1991 style pump. If it is new, it's a good deal. I think I recall about $150 for a new one (1997 style) which is all you can get through the normal channels these days. (this must be old stock).

I just re-read your post where you say you have a ’91. Let’s assume that your car has never had its water pump changed and therefore has the old style t-belt cover. The pump on eBay is an old style pump and therefore will fit your cover without modification. To me, it looks like a good deal possibly saving you $200+ bucks (water pump savings and t-belt cover savings). It’s funny that we’re discussing NOS (New Old Stock) parts on this forum—makes me think that I’m on an audiophile amplifier forum (where NOS vacuum tubes are THE big deal).

Thanks for all your responses, everyone. I contacted the seller, and he informed me that it is a new aftermarket (not OEM) part, but claims it will work in my '91 5-spd. He didn't have a part number other than what was posted on the auction (J FP2207).

Anyway, I'm gonna take a chance on it. I'll let y'all know the outcome. Wish me luck!

I have to tell you that is to most OEM looking non-OEM part I have ever seen! I will look at my old one tonight, but it looks like an OEM to me, if I recall it.
