Why should Honda build the 2nd-gen NSX?

I was looking at Skyline, r8 , Lex, Zr1 , etc........These other cars will push the NSX up there, possibly recreating a fairly priced car, but with a badge that most people are not willing to spend 100k plus....

Allot of people will spend 89k for a 750il BMW but not 80k for an Audi a8, which is the better car to me....

Furthermore, the NSX was above the Corvette and standard 911 league, but people did not admit to it until 10 years after then NSX came out. We know agree the Nsx is close to 911 Turbo C2 range and above Ferrari 348. Like in the 80s when people brushed the 911 of as "its just a volkswagon on steroids".

Some people were very happy to pay $100k when the Nsx came out because they were ahmm wise given the choices:tongue:

Yeah ,but people are paying around $130K for the R8 so that perception maybe changing. Most were very disappointed with the new 7 series as you can see it's resale drops like a rock. It also had a face lift and interior changes 2 or 3 years into a brand new model. Shows how dissatisfied customers were with the car.

i here you....I sold my 745 and got an x5 07.....745 2002 bmw with 100k miles will only pull 22k.....and cost darn 79k.....

1991 nsx with 100k miles can sell for more...I was like wow...Let me get rid of this car why i still can get some money on a trade in....

However, its only a small percentage that can afford a car over 100k and even a smaller amount that will pay for it....

It seems like the NSX turns more heads in 2008 then it did in 1991...

dont get me wrong the NSX should cost way more then any ACURA....BUT have a couple of Eng Choices (v6 turbo, V8 , v10)

The more it cost the more I will have to beg my wife....I have an m6 but i paid fac price....No way in hell would i have paud the 125k price tag r my wife would have let me....It was an impulsive buy....But I do like the Fact I can have 4 people in it (avg adult size) and still past cars on the hwy and not tell the diff as if I was in it by myself.....okay i talked enough

AutoMakers should learn from BMW....have 100 models of the same car....

IE 325, 328, 330, 335 bmw....Everyone doesnt care about going 0 - 60 in 5.9 vs 4.5.....Both will get you the same ticket... You can pay 30k - 45k for the above example....and from th outside look the same

Yep people will get the lower models just to get their foot in the door and still say they're driving a BMW. Heck they're not tracking them anyway.

I agree totally..However i Was only 18 yrs old in 1991, and I was lucky to have my hand me down 1986 Trans Am (lol) back then. In 93 my mom bought an rx7TT and I am sad to say regardless of what the specs said, I use to smoke a freinds father NSX....I know street Racing..I was 20 and now i am 36, so those days are gone....

But back then the rx7 r1 new was 42k and an NSX if i recall 69 - 80 depending on the wait list....I loved the car but couldnt afford it so why even go on the car lot and look.....

With that being said if that car come out and is over 100k....It will just be a dream for me and i have to wait 15 years like I did to get the 91/93 that i have now.....Damn I hope History doesnt repeat....

Heck I would prefer them to leave the NSX alone and just call it something else....We all will be refered to as having the OLD NSX.......Most people dont know the car was made past the 1st year...amazing....

I am just wondering would my 91 be worth more or less when a new one comes out...

Based on that their talking about with the new "wiener mobile NSX"
I would have to say more..........

Just think 1968 Corvette, Foolish people traded in their 67's for the latest & greatest.

Acceleration is marginal some would argue with the right driver the NSX should pull from the RX7. Top speed also goes to NSX.

The only option for Honda is ...

I honestly sense Honda will bring the HSC as everyone hates the ASC.

If Honda copies BMW, do we really want 100 model variants of the NSX running around? Honda is a unique entity. They do not see themselves only as an automaker. They are rule breakers. Why did Honda build their first car in 1963, a sensational sports car that was radically different from other sports cars of that era and then ceased production in 1970 ? It took them only 20 years to follow up with the NSX in 1990. These guys have their own timeline and march to a different tune. That is why it's a mysterious maverick. Perhaps Honda is focusing their energy at the moment on their venture into aerospace. They will break all the rules in the aviation world with the Honda JET. It's really a bold and risky experiment but a fantastic challenge for their brilliant engineers. Back in the '60s when Japanese aviation engineers finished their degree, there were no jobs available so Honda would hire these aircraft engineers to work on their F1 and sports car project. Now in 2008, as if creating innovative road vehicles are not difficult enough. These guys are dreaming of innovative breakthroughs in aviation. Let's just hope some of that aerospace technology will end up in their future vehicles. Yeah, I want a Honda Jet NSX on the ground.

I agree with you....These two cars are so closed match, its a toss up who could get to 0 - 100 quicker....

I hope the HSC wins...

You right ...they dont have to make a 100....Just two ...My wife will let me buy a car for99k but not 100k and i am not sure I want a 3000 a month car note (LOL)...Porsche, Fear, Lambo, Lex, etc...all do it....Even Dodge does it with The Magnum....I am sure a low end version would still cost over 100k...

IE the new BMW Alpina 7.....is a supped up 7. Why cut yourself short and offer only a 125k version....far more people can and will but the base 750 for 83k....After all, this is the US....You cant legally do 155 in 14 secs in the Alpina on any road.....OPTIONS SHOULDNT LESSEN THE VALUE....heck the 335 bmw has a more agressive kit then the 330, so a car person can tell the difference.....but Honda/Acura shouldnt price themselves out of the market....IE...Audi intro the r8 doing the superbowl for 3 million dollar spot....anyone who was going to buy that car for 130k, already made their mind up and i dont think the superbowl commercial did anything, but make people wish they could have and afford it....

again i am not saying they should put a 4 cylinder it and sell it for 30k....

i dont mean to take over this thread...Whats crazy I took the m6 in to be serviced....they gave me a 335.....I was mad as hell....That car was more fun to drive then the m6 and 1/3 of the cost....Amazing...and it was an automatic...

That is better than most other dealers who will give you a pontiac rental.

A $45k BMW 335 for a courtesy loaner and you are "mad as hell"?
Anyway, the founder, who was the one with the "Dreams", is dead. The chief of the NSX team retired. What are left over are just beancounters and a few ponytailed big bellied designers. The current Honda is a manufacturer of econoboxes, SUVs, and some semi-luxury cars. Their cars are selling quite well to the masses and certainly competing very well with GM and Ford. There is really no reason to build the next generation high performance car.

Ouch +1 They really don't have to other than they said they would.

If i remember correctly, i was watching Best Motoring regarding the NSX-R released back in 2002. It was talking about why Honda doesn't released Type R after NA1-R which end on 95? They said because they need to have a NEW tech. on their highest model car so even NSX Type S zero was as fast as the NA1-R but not name as Type-R. Finally, they gave us the answer in 02 with the facelift NSX, they found that the "tech" was aerodynamic. Which made a 10 years old car as far as any modern supercar. So i think they need to have some new tech to put on the car so it can like the way they did back in 1989 which launched the NSX - their tech was ahead of any other car maker.
That's what i think
