Why our cars can't be HellaFlush! Pictures from Buttonwillow...

That's BANANAS Billy. I'm speechless. I was happy breaking 2:10 at BW but a 1:58?? You've just convinced me I'm not worthy to spend any more money on my NSX. Next year I hope to break 2:05 and at least be in the same zip code and Ryan, Willem, and Jim.

Thanks for sharing the news. I heard from Jon and the FB world yesterday and couldn't help but post the good news here.

Can't wait to see your video.

NT05s??? Seriously man?

Thanks man. I still think swapping your springs F-R would be good but yes, the nsx is still a very capable car. I was honestly a bit bummed with all of the fast S2Ks out there but like them, the NSX does benefit from the type-r wing and I hope to make a real element in the same size/location to drop another couple seconds. I'm also an advocate of an OS Giken. It really improves the ability of the car over the stock diff.

That was on stock KW V3s. With a larger front bar and no traffic I think a mid 57 is possible.

Couple of Q's if you don't mind...

1. I had my friend Mike drive my NSX at SOW going CCW 2 wknds ago. He immediately mentioned the understeer in my car. It wants to push in the esses after the bowl. I would assume swapping the spring rates in my car would make the understeer worse? BTW.. Mike set the track record for a BRZ with you this past wknd at BW. He was driving a red BRZ and said he couldn't shake "some white NSX". He didn't realize it was you until later lol.

2. Nick mentioned to me that OSG had you try out a special set of clutch packs for your OSG diff. So no noise in the parking lot? If so, that's awesome.

9K front, 11k rear rates, what size StarSpecs again? It'd be nice to have ryneen do a few laps to see your balance.

OSG has a new set of clutch plates that are even more streetable, but yes, with the clutch setup in the motoiq article I wrote, it's virtually noise free except when cold at full lock under load.

ryneen sat shotgun in my car last time we were at BW. I was probably going too slow for him to really comment but it would be really nice to get another NSX driver's opinion on my setup. As you guys have mentioned in the past.. I'd like to stop fiddling with setup but also would like to get it as dialed in as possible before locking down everything in place for a couple of years. I will probably put off the OSG Diff but I heard from an industry colleague they might stop production on them if they haven't already.

Yes, good memory! 9k front / 11k rear Swifts. No assists or tender springs. Front Type R bar, stock rear bar off a 96 I believe. 215 fronts and 265 rears. I run about 32psi hot all around. Good tire wear (i'm not rolling the front sidewall) but I've got to measure heat dissipation across the tread. I always forget to do that.
Any thoughts you can provide would be great. If not, no worries.. maybe i'll catch you at the next event!

Will also get caught up on the Moto article. Thanks for the rec.

RYU you may need more front tire.32 hot is kinda low for street tires and even most r comps.

Ryu I'm also wondering why the reversed spring rates! Seems like with a type r sway bar and stock rear you'd want the stiffer springs up front to match that balance... But what do I know!

Awesome stuff.

I didn't realize how my 2:11.xx in my Prelude is actually quite competitive for its class. I knew it was a decent time, but recently I'm reading that in other enthusiast classes, people are winning awards for 2:09, which is something I could most definitely hit with another session out at Buttonwillow.

Now it makes me wonder what I'd be able to pull in the NSX. I'd probably be a lot slower due to my overall unfamiliarity with the car, especially when compared to my Prelude.

Stop production on NSX diffs? I know they do currently have them... What's your alignment?
We checked inventory ~3 wks ago. Only 1 6spd OSG Diff and 4.44 Ring/Pinion remained worldwide and it was in the USA OSG office which my friend picked up. There were none in Japan. The OSG clutches we ordered were also in low quantity and ordered straight from Japan. We probably have the same contacts but perhaps if you know of better information on inventory thru your network of friends kindly PM me. I'm considering buying a 5spd OSG diff just to keep but the revised clutch pack is something north of $800 Nick had mentioned. We already have 4 OSG twin disc clutches en route for local friends but I did not inquire about the 5spd diffs at the time though. I'll need to look into that soon I reckon.

My alignment (done on Nick's Hunter). See bottom left pic.

After speaking with ryneen I recall running mine at 36 hot. It was 32 cold. I get easily confused these days since i'm always chasing different setups. I need to start a log book of changes. He runs his NT01s at 36 hot all around.

I have single adjustable JDM coilovers (DG5) which came stock on the Spoon spec NSX. They ship with a heavy rear bias like most JDM coilovers seem to do. I will try to swap springs rates like Billy suggest. However, question remains... my car is understeering now even with the heavy rear spring bias. Will have to spend some time chasing down this issue over the next few track days. Perhaps I can convince Ryneen, illWillem, Jim, or even Billy to give me some feedback from the driver's seat. I need to install the cups soon anyway!

Not sure why your car would understeer with that setup and a Type R bar. I have more camber in the rear than the front and same springs all around and my car is oversteery. Would it rotate/oversteer if you trail-brake?

Since he has the type r bar in the front and stock in the rear, technically wouldn't he be over sway barred with a front bias?

I'd throw on that trophy bar and you'll be able to dial out the understeer with a stiffer rear setting.

RYU, I forgot where you live, but if you can get your car anywhere near Huntington Beach, I would highly recommend my setup guy Erik Messley. He has been setting up track prepped NSX's since they came out in '91. He's a bit of a setup savant, yet doesn't market his services to the tuner crowd. However, he has extensive experience in pro level racing and knows the NSX inside and out. He's been doing my car for 10 years. He could trouble shoot all of your setup issues on the rack and give you a baseline like mine that is very quick and easy to drive. Just my .02 For what it's worth, he did the initial setup for Kip's NSX at Driving Ambition as well.

Sweet!

Haha. Nice hands Billy. I don't know if I would have been able to recover at 1:46. I didn't see that coming. t think I just picked up a 1/2 second in the bus stop from watching your vid. I just need more balls everywhere else and I'M definitely jealous of your diff.

Madman? Not sure what's so 'crazy' about the video...

Ryneen - Your car control would catch it. I was too tight at the apex where the bump is the worst. I kept a tight line because there was an S2000's rear bumper at track-out earlier in the session. Don't touch the curb/be that tight in riverside. Yes the diff is awesome, exiting T2 is really easy.

Here's the 1:37.520 record lap in the FXMD FX750 V6.1:
