Hi guys,
I will need to buy some parts again in the amount of $900. Really light and compact. I think Niello gives 30% off but the sales tax is 8.25% since I am in San Francisco. I have been buying from Tim at Ray Laks but the discount for this part is only 25% since it is under $1000. Does anyone knows if there are other part source that is OUTSIDE California that will give 30% off list and free shipping?
Thanks,
Steve

Yes, try Goodson. If you need a personal contact there, Susan Tableman is in the service area but is always willing to help NSXers out (and she posts on these forums).

Not to downplay or supercede those dealers who lead the way in providing 30% on oem parts, but you could try doing what I did and "convince your local dealer to offer the same 30%,,worked for me.

You could do that but I find that my local dealers never have any NSX parts in stock other than oil filters. Goodson usually has most of the parts you need and they are very quick to ship and pleasant to deal with to boot. They really helped me out when I needed the CV boot the next day. I would rather give business to good dealer like Goodson who treats you right and pay extra for shippnig than those local dealers who are snotty most of the time.

do you have to be a member or something to get the 30% discount from Goodson or that is just what they normally charge? Do they charge shipping?

Then find a different dealer.

Dealers in Chicago and Milwaukee that service a lot of NSXs keep major NSX parts, even clutches, in stock.

Yes, it's for members of the NSX Club of America. Why not join? Your savings can easily more than pay for the membership dues.

When I was looking for the CV boots, I called 4 dealers(Pohanka, Radley, Tischer, and Rosenthal) in my area and non had the part in place. I called goodson and they overnighted them to me. The dealer service around northern VA is not great.

One thing I found out is that different dealers have different list price. So the amount of discount may be the same but the final cost may be different.

I know that Tustin Acura don't give discount and their list price is higher than, say, South Coast Acura in Costa Mesa. And SCA gives a discount to NSXCA members which worked out to be about the same as a 30% from some other dealers that have higher list price.

According to SCA, dealers are given a suggested list price. What they markup on top of that is totally up to the dealers. So just call up a couple of places for quotes if the purchase amount is substantial.

Gunn Acura in San Antonio also gives the discount and can ship to you - ask for Hector or Mark and mention that you are a member of the NSXCA (I assume you are?).

Ive got sigs off, but is the whole quote there? Hate to bring this up, but the next line IS "girls with good bodies like boys with Ferraris"

No love for the NSX I guess :D

Steve, I believe you pay the local Sacramento sales tax of 7.75% and not the 8.25%. And Niello Acura will most likely toss the shipping for free.

Hrant,

Niello has never shipped parts for free for me in the past, and today I was told that the NSXCA discount has been reduced to 20% from what used to be 30%, time to take the Niello Acura sticker off my NSX and start looking at another dealer to purchase parts from instead :(

Talk to Goodson.

http://AcuraAutomotiveParts.org gives 15 - 20 % off, so not quite as much, but they have all the Honda brand parts online in an easy to use site. They ship from a suburb of Atlanta GA, usually 2nd day air for the price of ground. Very reliable, full parts selection, late night ordering, and significantly cheaper than the local dealer. But not 30%.

I have no idea what the 'standard discount' is @ Goodson, but I asked them to quote some parts for a window replacement and thier price was 29.7% off the list prices at www.acuraparts247.com. The total was over a thousand before discount, so maybe I got a better price? I just asked for the "NSXCA discount'.

I don't know, but I couldn't possibly be happier about the service. Gaylon and Susan are fantastic.

Just to clarify in regard to Neillo. I just spoke with the parts department on behalf of NSXCA. The discount will be 25% going forward. Shipping costs will be evaluated based on purchase amount and type of shipping requested. I will be updating the New Member Packet info once I can breath after NSXPO2004!!

I think you'll find Ray Laks extremely competitive & they have free shipping on their parts & of course no sales tax outside of NY. Ask for Tim Poliniak
Example:
For part # 46377-SL0-A02
At AcuraAutomotiveParts it shows a list of $39.05 discounted to $33.58 (14% discount); with "handling" this comes to $38.53 then add another $1.50 for shipping (less than 10lbs) Total is $40.03.
At Ray Laks the part was $29.90(- 23.5%) plus $3.95 handling = $33.85 shipped
(Note that the $3.95 is per order, so if multiple parts order only add one time)
I find the discount varies depending on the part - I've actually experienced the same thing with Niello in the past - it is not a consistent 30% across the board.
With no tax or shipping, larger & more expensive items become relatively cheaper than just taking the discount alone into consideration. I also try to order multiple parts at the same time to reduce the "per order" net.

Edit: with Larry's new news on Niello, looks like Ray Laks is probably pretty close to the best deal. For me, Niello means another 8.25% sales tax as well as shipping.

I see Larry beat me to the post, anyway here is my feedback.

Ken and others, I just called Niello Acura to get the story as I too was caught off guard with your post.

Mike Svilarich is no longer the sales manager at Niello; he has left Niello Acura. Chuck Towe, who was in the service department and quite knowledgable about NSXs, is the new parts manager. I talked to Chuck, he gave a few heads up but kept the door open to reconsider. Larry, you must have called after I talked to Chuck as he did not mention your call. But I did share with him the discounts of the other dealers.

1) Their wholesale pricing to all other mechanics is 20% off list price so he was trying to institute a consistent pricing system. Please be aware that there are many "list" prices; we are using Acura's list price not an artificially inflated list price - we had this discussion years ago when we secured the 30% off.

2) As you all know, Niello's 30% off was the deepest discount, and often they did toss in free shipping when the purchase dollar was high enough or it was a repeat customer with good volume of business. The latter has not changed.

3) However such discount pricing is based on certain volume. Chuck has noted that the volume has decreased but he is going to do further analyses per my request to compare the volume of business over the last 3 years with this current year. Given the addition of many other dealers offering discounts, it is not surprising for Niello to do a cost benefit analysis and decide 20% (now per Larry 25%) will generate the same revenue with less voulme. As I have noted in the past on these forums, having more vendors is great but it has other effects too. It dilutes the business of the one that has consistently given the deepest discounts (much like Goodson Acura in the past), and supported our local chapter as well as NSXPO 2003 (the latter to the tune of $10,000 check to be used at our discretion).

Given the two phone calls and their reaction, I suggest you flood Chuck with your interests and willingness to buy more if he keeps the discount at 30%; having said this, money talks louder than promises ......... ;)

HTH. I will post more if I have additional info.

I use Acura of Agusta in GA- Joe in the parts department has an NSX and is VERY Helpful. I think ~30% off, no free shipping, but the service is great.
706-737-5200.

Front lip- I think list is under $100 and shipping something that large would not be smart(UPS WILL destroy it) Go to your local for that one part.

Just my $.02

Just looked at my invoices from AOA and all the parts are 30% off.
Whats more interesting is that they have never charged me more than $5.00 for shipping. Granted no large/heavy items but, car cover/service mat/etc cost more than $5.00 to ship. I didnt think you could ship an empty envelope for less than $5.00 anymore. :)
