who can do a refresh on my engine

I'd seriously consider driving her to Mich and let Cody go to town on it.

I thought you TO boys are ga-ga over Speedstar?

Peter, haul that car up to Ottawa and let Tapp Auto do it. Jason and Chris there are excellent. They build engines all day long.

Keep in mind to that an NSX engine, is fairly mainstream now in its design compared to other Acura engines. It is clearly the best, and uses exotic materials, but it should be too hard to find someone to do it.

As Dave said, Rob is excellent, he recently rebuilt Arshad's engine.

Rob is top-notch. Very knowledgable, and very easy to deal with. Plus he owns an NSX too, so you know he'll treat the car with the proper respect it deserves.

Shad @ Driving Ambition in Sacramento or Autowave in LA CA. SOS I'm sure isn't bad though I havent' had an experience with them. Worth the shipping cost and you can drive it back for fun..

You won't regret it. Unless someone else has done tens and hundreds of NSXs, I wouldn't let them touch it.

Peter thought I would introduce myself. My car just turned 300,000k which I bought new in 94. I was looking at a new car, but in the end I just couldn't let my baby go.....so I travelled and met most of the guys mentioned in this site. They were all good but I elected to send my car down to Chis at SOS. I decided to do a complete overhaul from an engine refresh, supercharger, Aem unit, brakes, suspension, paint, stereo, etc....you name it and I'm doing it right down to the bushings. I shipped the car out last week and can't wait to bring it back in April. My timing sure sucks with the exchange rate where it is. Will let know how it turns out....Jim

Jim - now that you're out of hiding, tell us about your car! There aren't many first owners around. Any pics?

At the moment, this is the only pic I have of the car being loaded to Phoneix.I bought the car from Accura 2000 in April 94.I took it for a test drive and the rest is history. Its black with tinted windows, and has been well maintained. In the early years, I took it to the track, but not as of late. For me to keep the car,it needed to be updated....so Chris and I set a goal of 400 Hp at the wheels,a nice cut off point for this engine. Of course this meant modifying the rest of her. Insane as this sounds,I guess I am just one of those proud NSX owners who could not give up the car.

Jim - were you an instructor at the track at XPO 07?

I hope when you get your car back you'll bring it out to some events and show off your SoS NSX!

You won't regret it. After having my engine redone by SOS, I'm estatic over how well it turned out. Their customer service is tried and true.

Looking forward to hearing about yours when it's done. Congrats in advance. ;)

Agree that SOS is awesome and all, and I send them as much bucks as I can, but to me, sending a car across the continent adds a whole degree of unnecessary costs to an engine refresh when you have an excellent local choice.

Just my $0.02.

Valid comment, and normally I am the 800 lb gorilla waving the flag and supporting local content. However, the high level of confidence I have for Chris and the boys clearly offsets the price/value equation....at least for this owner.

Thanks for sharing Jim and your decision is an inspiration. Please keep me posted on the results with SOS.

With that REFRESH, can you still use your car as a daily driver?

SOS Chris is not a mechanic and doesn't work on any cars himself, he is just the owner of SOS. He does have a mechanic but the mechanic is young(early 20's). Send to Driving Ambition and you will have Shad himself work on it. Shad has alot of Hands on experience Since you are spending so much might as well have someone with more knowledge mess with it. I have had my car in both shops.

I did send my Prelude's engine across the continent to have it built years ago (3 angle valve job, new springs, bore & stroke kit, milled head, ported and polished etc). and if you're looking to do all that, then by all means go ahead and ship it. But if you want a 'refresh' and maybe some component upgrades then Rob is expertly qualified and local - saving you money for upgraded components, or mods later.

Remember by 2008 standards the NSX engine isn't cutting edge anylonger. There's no black magic in there to deal with, and your rebuild is straight forward. PM Arshad. He just had Rob do his.

Appreciate the candor. You see….modifying the car and whoever I send it to is clearly subjective and obviously debatable for many. However, it’s only a process for me, nothing more. In the end, it really comes down to my passion and wanting to share the excitement with others in the NSX community. It’s that simple … the very reason we joined!!!

I Agree 100%.

Thanks Jim, we appreciate it. It is an honor to work on a first owner car. Jim's been rather humble with the work he's having us do unless you consider 500 crankshaft power a "refresh". Jim's not the first though, this is the fifth Canadian NSX that's been sent to us for major engine work.

Don't forget a janitor, engineer, accountant, HR specialist, and whatever other task requires my time at ScienceofSpeed. You're about 10 years off on Jeff's age, but I'm sure he'd consider it a compliment. :)

Cheers,
-- Chris

Jim/Chris:

Hopefully you guys can help me answer this question. What is required in order to ship a canadian vehicle down to the US for modifications? Is there some special form that needs to be filled out ahead of time? Any other arrangements that need to be made?

Thanks!

-Arshad

As Chris has stated, my car was stock in every respect with approximately 200k miles on it when it left Toronto back in November.
Needless-to-say, the results have even exceeded my own goals. There is still more in the works and when completed I will provide an update. I do, however, want to congratulate Chris,Jeff and the entire group at SOS......there service and advice has been unwavering....rest assured, you can not put a price on this!!!!!

Arshad, I will email you on cross boarder shipping.......Jim
