I'm in the market for an inexpensive, easy to use code reader for my '95 (obd2). I've got a CEL that won't go out, pretty sure its an O2 sensor, but want to be sure. Suggestions?
You can get one at just about any auto parts store. Most will pull the code for you if you ask. I don't know what the least expensive ones run but the $150 I paid for mine has been well worth it over the years.
If you want to DIY spend the money to get a unit that can read parameters (quantitative) in addition to the codes (qualitative). Lappy based readers offer good value, but probably best to stick with the usb interface. Cheaper ones won't read manufactuer-specific codes/values or run their tests.
I bought an Actron Brand OBD II pocket scanner, model ACTCP9125, from Levine Auto Parts, Danbury, CT for $73 including shipping in Oct 2005. Here is their web link

This is a great little reader. I got the same one on eBay from a seller that had a poorly written add for $42 plus $3.95 shipping brand new in the sealed packaging. Do an eBay search and see what comes up.
You can use the original light blink method to get the code. If it is an 02 sensor it will blink the code and you will know. Some blink codes are further broken down into two codes for the ODBII scanner but I would try the blink mode first. If this is a one time use, I would save the money for the parts to fix it.
Also if you have an AutoZone near by they will read the code for free.
