Where do you look for cars when buying? non nsx's too

eBay and misc forums for model research, usually enthusiast forums or autotrader for buying, occasionally I will poke around craigslist/recycler if nothing is available - I try to give myself a fair chunk of time prior to buying a vehicle (eg rent a car, etc.), so I can see several examples before making a decision.

To Find and buy:
generally just autotrader or cars.com, that's 90% of the time. Other than that, forums or ebay, rarely the classifieds.

Research:
90% of the time, Edmunds.com
Then deeper digging in forums when I know specifically what I want.

cars.com
autotrader.com
craigslist.org

I've been searching for a 97-99 Cherokee for weeks now, but no no avail. (I'm refusing to buy from a dealer)

I search for forums on specific models or makes to hear what the actual owners have to say and what problems or short-comings they think the vehicle has.

MSN Carpoint and Edmunds also has owner reviews to help also.

Yeah, I would most defineately do research on the forums before buying the car!

If I only knew then what I know now about the NSX I could have talked the guy down another $1000!

Can they certify the 99's? it may be worth it? Private sellers do not have to disclose anything and have no backing if anything goes wrong :frown: but most of us here are sharper than the average bear ( we all know how to research a car more so than the average consumer IMO).

Concidering I'm going to turn this XJ into a trail rig, certification really doesn't mean much to me. Like you've said, we do a lot more research than the average consumer, so I really know what to look for; which is great cuz you can really talk private sellers down that way by throwing in technical sounding stuff!
