What's The Word On Passing An Emissions Test with A Non-Stock Exhaust?

Fellas,

Gotta go for my annual emissions test this months. First time with my X. I've got DC Sport H/C/E's and wanted to make sure that I was aware of any potential issues that may crop up w.r.t. the test. In reading the archives, it seems that some of the failures that have happened are mostly due to the fact that people have not warmed the car up sufficiently. I don't believe that having a modified exhaust should be cause for concern, but I do want to get people's opinions. Any issues that I need to be mindful of other than warm-up time, or any "must do's," would be much appreciated.

The emissions test will be done in the state of Illinois, in or near Chicago.

Thanks much.

Regards.

My opinion is that I don't believe that having a modified exhaust should be cause for concern, as long as you still have the catalytic converter. ;) Those with bypass pipes may flunk - as they should.

In Illinois, they usually don't do the dyno test if you have low profile tires because they are afraid that they'd damage the wheel or something. This applied to my stock 94 wheels also. So unless you have the stock 93- wheels, you'll mostlikely only get idle test which is easier to pass.

But in either case, as Ken said, if you have the CAT which is in good working order, you'll pass mostlikely.

AK,

What test station did you go to?

Uhmm...I have a '94 and they put it on the dyno. I've taken the test twice.

BTW, I passed with flying colors with an aftermarket exhaust.

The one in Hoffman Estate I believe.
