what would you buy for 80-90K?

As nice looking and nice driving as the AMG cars are, I just cant get over the fact that the third pedal is missing. I guess if you spend a lot of time in heavy traffic it might be preferrable, but not for me. I simply could not purchase a sports car--from AMG to ferrari to even the new NSX unless it has a manual clutch. Even when I look into the pornography that is the Aston Martin line-up, unless its fully manual, I dont want it.

Right now, thats EXACTLY how I feel.

If not I would recommend a 996tt with turbo upgrades of course:biggrin: I believe you can pick up a nice 02 turbo for about 75k-ish and spend another 15-20k upgrading your turbos and you have a nice daily driveable 500-600whp supercar that costs about 90k:tongue:

My brother's 911 has about 500whp and all I can say is:eek:  I wish my NSX could go that fast:frown:

How fast is the NSX? And how fast with a Comptech SC? This car is what? 3000 pounds? I would think 370 HP would really move it. Does anyone know how fast the Autorotor SC'ed NSX is?

Skyline GTR. Could be considered a little ricey though I guess. Fun car to drive though.

Yeah... but its not here. I can't wait until 2008.

The car really moves at stock trim. CTSC is a good addition.

How fast do you want it to go?

That’s a pretty good list.
I also would go with an Ultima or a 7 or a Nobel
But you want luxury so maybe an Esprit V8 is worth a look.
But if you want to impress the kind of girls you are talking about then you have to go with the Ferrari.
They will just about wet their knickers if you pick them up in that.
I was at a meet before a drive last week and we had some nice cars parked and two girls walked past and saw the cars and one says to the other “are there any Ferraris?” and they shake there heads and turn away. We could have had an F1 there and they would not know.
Also if you have not already got one, get a Rolex because they sure as hell wont know what a Patek or a Ulysse Nardin is.

Regards,

Patrick

Thats a funny post Patrick.... I am not trying to pickup girls with my car. I just don't want something that when I go out, is an actual PROBLEM. A Z06 I was saying, is. I know a half dozen girls that would just be uncomfortable getting into that thing. Suprisingly, these girls also do not like red cars, yellow cars, porsche 911's, or ferraris. They all say to me "mid life crises, small penis. don't buy that". They like the 645ci, the MB CL, SL, CLK, Astons, and an NSX as long as its silver, or black, etc. Pretty conservative. But these same girls also grin when I punch the CL600 and their butt gets sucked into the seat.

The car that fits my bill perfectly, is a DB9 Volante. But that thing is $150K used.

I don't know... I want it to do 0-60 in 2 seconds.... what do you mean? How fast is it? has anyone ran at a track? whats the 1/4?

If your looking at the SL55 AMG, I would recommend purchasing a SL600 and spending $4k on a renntech ecu reflash and presto! you'll have sl65 performance:eek:

I am fully aware of that. But this is what else I'd have to do. Replace the taillights to 55 ones. Replace the single tip exhaust with something beefier. Change the wheels and tires. Make sure it has the "sport" package. This is all standard on a 55 and it looks a world better than a standard 600 which looks the same as a base 500. In short, I need to drop 10K into a 600 to make it look right. Thats pre-ecu. And still the AMG model has certain advantages... better handling, much better seats. They look the same, they are not the same.

I realized today I need a stick. I am tooooo bored with automatics. I don't care how fast it is. I prefer to play than to have over the top HP.

I tell you, the NSX is looking like the best choice right now!

Since that is the case right now, than get a 02+ NSX, use the 20k+ savings in CTSC, wheels, tires, exhaust, coilover, NSX-R replica wing, and custom sound system with NAV.. Now you are set to go.

Guys I appreciate all the input here. What a great forum. So far I have to say... I am still thinking NSX. Take it to Comptech and get the SC installed BY THEM. Get a nice stereo/nav. Get that cool clear engine cover (gotta show the SC), lower it a bit, upgrade those brakes by Matel... (no offense to anyone, but these look DATED). Get a conservative color, take the top off, crank the stereo, and have fun. Forget the fact that I am losing luxury. I am asking for too much in one car. My trips are short weekend runs to a bar or the beach... the NSX is comfortable enough. Its not a horrible cruiser. The fun will make up for it.

That or I will go into debt and get a V8 Vantage. I wonder if it will be as fun. Its sure fun to look at!

I was just typing that same thing. You think 20K will get me all that? with install? will it add 10K to the car's price come sell time?

Let's see if 20K can cover it.

CTSC installed around $9000
18/19 Volks wheels with SO3 tires $3500
JIC Magic Coilover $1600
NSX-R replica wing by Downforce $800
Single Din or Double Din with NAV $1600
Center console replace for after market NAV $300
Shallow sub with enclosure $600
Seperates speakers and amp $1500-GOD KNOWS
Installation of wheels, tires, coilover $400
installation for stereo, $600
Total 19.9k:biggrin:

That was close, but some installation price and parts price may very depands on what you choose and who does the install for you.

What about importing a R34? The nobel would be a fun car too like someone else mentioned.

just do it...

No1. No2. No3.

'97-'05 CTSC itself is $9k. Anticipate misc. wiring-harnesses, ECU-EMS (AEM?), injector-servicing, tuning & more tuning... to add $4k-$5k more. Headers/exhaust should also come into play: $1k/exhaust & $1.5k/headers. Let's say for the remainder, you get some nice forged wheels & ultra, high-performance tires. ~$20k (and then some...)

Unless you got someone who will install/tune the CTSC pro-bonor, you'll go over the threshold.

Actually, it won't add $10k to your NSX's value. It'll add more. You'll easily get 75-90% of your money back for selling off your exhaust & headers (depending of-course on what make/model you got and condition). Wheels are subjective, but anticipate 50%-67% as a low-end figure (offered/sold apart from the NSX). The CTSC should be worth perhaps 67% of it's original value.

When going F.I. w/ the NSX, always budget atleast 50% more than the cost of your parts. And don't be concerned w/ residuals, you'll lose your sanity!

Thank you Sir, I try.
Sounds like you have some picky females up where you are!
You know over 25 years ago when I was dating. For the first 2 or 3 dates. I would turn up on the bus and let them drive if they had a car and then take them to McDonalds and ask to go Dutch. I also had access to a rusty old cargo van that I would use for the same purpose. If they survived that it was fun to show up in a nice new car on the 4th date with tickets to the theater and reservations at a top notch restaurant.
On one such occasion, on a first date the old rusty van would not start after we came out of McDonalds so I asked my date (who was dressed to the nines and wearing high heels) to push the van to get it going. She did and it started. When she got back in the van she was laughing hard. She called me a week later for another date.
I’m still married to that one.

Sounds like you've made up your mind! NSX vs. Aston.

I don't mean to bash the Aston nor am I trying to persuade you to jump into a NSX, but I've heard the Aston's had poor reliability. Can anyone verify that?

Yes, that is a very good story. They don't make women like that anymore Patrick. You may have gotten the last one. You don't know what I have to deal with.

hand down a nice sport sedan CLS AMG

Did I mention I am coming off a CL600? With full Renntech mods. As nice as a CLS looks, its an E class in a nice body. Its already a whole level of luxury and refinement DOWN from my 600. An NSX is a different type of car with an open top and a stick. What am I getting going from my CL600 to a CLS?! 2 more doors?

Its nice, but this is a GUY car. There has been a lot of money spent on R parts, and that has value to someone who actually knows or cares what an NSX-R is. To anyone else... its a lot of money on a lot of parts that are not necessarily making an improvement. No offense to the owner at all. Its a beautiful car. And I can TOTALLY see where he is coming from and why he has done what he has done. I am like him myself. But... there is that problem.

This car doesn't work for me for the same reason its not working for his wife. I am not going to ask my girlfriend/date in high heels to climb over into those racing seats. Its too boy racer. The SL55 he mentioned is the car I prefer in that situation. A standard NSX is borderline, this may have been pushed over the edge. Its a terrific second car.

Turbo2go,
I think you should get an 02 NSX with the SOS 3.6 with their new supercharger coming out in the spring. That should be more than enough horsepower for you. You can always add the other goodies later on. It'll be an ultimate sleeper.

Aston Martin is a British car. Horribly unreliable. Notorious... but when Ford bought them, improvements started to be made. The last of the bad models is the DB7, older vanquish. The newer stuff, DB9, Vantage, is made in very high tech factories. Help has come from Ford and all its divisions, including all wiring and safety done by Volvo. The engine is made in a brand new factory in Cologne, Germany.

You can easily see it in the car. Fit and finish is tight. Detail is all there. Even the leather seams are quite different. When I look at an older Aston, any Ferrari, Maserati, etc., you can see the quality (lack of). The new Astons are different. Just look at the way the top folds in a DB7 versus a DB9. Look at the guages, the seams, its all very different. The new Vantage will probably be a pretty reliable car. Its a shortened DB9.
