What other production cars are all aluminum?

Add the EV1 to the list of aluminum chassis'd vehicles. The entire space frame and large parts of the suspension are aluminum. The body was plastic -- similar to saturns.

Just the hood. As was the hood on the previous generation (FC) turbos.

Suspension components are also aluminum, like the FC.

I recall reading that the RX-8 prototype used an aluminum frame and body panels. Don't know if that's supposed to make it to production or not.

Just caught this thread and surprised nobody listed the Porsche 928s that had significant AL in the body and have had SIGNIFICANT problems since the welds were not done correctly.

I am still in the Porshe club and you will read articles on it from time to time.

Anyway - the Porshe people believe this was the 1st full production use of AL throughout the body.

Some Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost had polished aluminum bodies and so did some made to order specials. I have seen one or two in person and they are beautiful works of art IMHO. They are huge too!

A big part of the body panels of the Volkswagen Lupo 3 liter version (3 liters per 100 km) are aluminium - a good base for a tiny race car because it's much lighter than the normal Lupos.

I think the S2000 is.

BTW, the Delorean was stainless.

I have a friend who is a Porsche 928 collector, and I know they are alum. I think other Porsche's are as well.

Two year old thread. No wonder I didn't recognize my own writing.

I am sorry I forgot about the Aston Martins. Very fine construction of aluminium and a bit of carbon fiber.

I think the NSX is still unique in that it is all welded aluminium and most of the other cars are riveted and glued together. Riveting and bonding frame parts probably allows for easier repairs. The NSX frame tubes need to be cut off and new ones welded in when they get bent.

how much of the 360 is aluminum as compared to a nsx ?

The 360 is all aluminum, just like the NSX.

hmmm... It's worth noting that Aston Martin has been doing this for over 40 years! The original James Bond car, the Aston Martin DB5 had hand-rolled & aluminum body panels! (Note: aluminium in UK!) If one panel had to be replaced on the body, often the replacement piece's fitment and alignment would be off noticably. Handcraftmanship at its best...!

The Aston Martin DB7, the car introduced in the mid 90's reinvented the company as it brought much needed cash to a manufacturer that was producing just 40 cars per year was now turning out 1000's of cars delivered annually worldwide. The hood panel was composed of composite materials. Even w/ minor dings or an actual collision, it would deform so greatly that it needed replacing. The cost of a replacement one was rather exhorbitant and there were fitment issues. So Aston Martin decided to use an aluminum hood for all the DB7's leaving the factories thereon.

The newly released DB9 showcases extensive use of aluminum within the frame/chassis, suspension, and the outer body.
