I know Mugen makes an ECU for around $2100.
This can't be it. Any idea what this chip is?
Sounds dangerous for a stock motor.

It's a COPY of the Mugen chip. Most of these chip manufactureres do not encrypt their chips...its easy as pie to copy the chip if you get ahold of one. He is selling JUST the IC chip..its a $1 chip with 32k of code. All you need is a 27c256 rom and an eprom programmer to make them. It's just a pirate copy as this guy wouldn't be selling chips that could be copied on ebay if he cracked them himself. No different then burning a copy of windows XP and selling it on ebay. I should buy all his chips and undercut him on ebay...jag.

Would using this chip be the equivalent of buying the $2100 Mugen ECU? Meaning, just socket the factory ECU and install the chip.

It sounds like the program is meant for a highly modified NSX. 9500 redline, no limiter= blown motor. Is this even meant for a stock or I/H/E NSX?

Yes it's equivalent to buying their ECU.... piracy is a bitch..they put countless years into refining that chip and this guy just copies/burns it onto a 1 dollar part and takes 1 minute of his time. All you need is a 28 pin socket...unsolder the stock chip, pop the socket in..put the chip in and your set.

As far as the race aspect of this chip...you are correct. The obd1 Mugen chips for the civic's and civic-R's run with CLOSED LOOP DISABLED (gas milage down the tubes) and knock sensor disabled. It's tuned for cars that have a high 12.x:1 compression ratio and uses at LEAST 100 octane gas.(standard in japan?) Assuming the obd1 nsx ecu is the same. That's how they get away with timing advance...install the mugen chip on a stock car and most likely you've lost power and reliabilty. This is a strickly a racing chip but kids are idiots and want a 4000rpm vtec crossover with no rev limiter...arg.

The ad is also completely incorrect that all you do is buy the chip and plug it in. The factory chip is soldered, not socketed. So you have to unsolder the factory chip and either solder this one in or, perferably, solder in a socket. Either way it's certainly not plug-and-play.
