What do you think?

A friend of mine with a black nsx (David: yes, it is Lino

) would like to remove the plastic "parts" inside the central air dam in the front bumber, to have a smoother looking hole. A little like this:

What do you think? Do you see structural problems for the bumper?

If you are talking about the piece I think - the horizontal plastic bit that runs across the middle of the center, it won't hurt anything to remove it. I might recommend putting in some kind of grille or heavy gauge mesh in front of the radiator though...

Obviously this is a one-way conversion because he's going to have to cut it out.

That piece of polymer does no structural work as far as I'm concerned. The bumper is very soft and flexible and would not even be able to hold itself up without the aluminium brackets attached to the bumper. So it is safe to have it removed. Tell your friend good luck. As Lud mentioned, try getting some mesh.

Ok, after the reports I got here he decided (he feared some metal stuff inside the part he wanted to remove). He'll bring the car to the "plastic surgeon"

the coming weekend. Of course photos will be posted...

It snowed last weekend and he could not bring the car to the shop (200km from his home), the whole operation has been postponed of a couple weeks

I'll keep you informed. Anyway, sensors there?

I did it several years ago - nothing bad happens and you might like the look, (I did) it takes ~ 10 minuts with a small saw. Of course it takes the body shop longer than that to patch the holes and repaint it.

Anyone that wants to see a photo or three private me or look here for some old ones:

Ok, as promised, I have finally photos of his car (thanks David!) with the "plastic part" cutted and a mesh inserted both in the fornt and lateral air dams. He also chromed the two mirrors... and seen in reality they look very good!

IMO I think it'll look much better if the mesh was painted black, but that's just me.

How did he get the mirrors chromed?

Are those Decolte wheels on his car?

Whose red NSX is that in the background?

Veleno,
I know, in photos the mesh would look better in black but in reality the very shiny mirrors and the shiny chromed side intake ducts and the shiny wheels mix very well together.

The mirrors and side ducts have been chromed by a company here in Switzerland (55$ per mirror and 10 days time).

The wheels are ...????... David, can you help me here?

The red NSX is George's one (he's not in the forums), he was featured car of the month sometime last year.

How did he secure the mesh to the nose after cutting out the plastic? I would like to put some sort of mesh there, but without cutting anything. I have the Dali stone shields. The side ones look great, but the radiator one is too far back to see. I would like to figure out a way to bring the radiator shield forward, in line with the ones on the side.

Is that a wheel only available in your part of the world? I went to the AR website and found no such wheel.

I would have thought that he would have liked to change the side vents to mesh, and have them match the front. I wish that the air intake behind the engine hatch had mesh.

To each his own...

It's not for me, but I think the thing that would make it look better would be to either paint the mesh black or to make sure a clean cut or trimmed edge.

It's hard to tell from the photos but it looks like a jagged unfinished cut.

Perhaps the owner could consider plastic U-channel trim to provide a more finished look?
