What is this creature? Its looks pretty funny.

Believe me, Big Red looks even funnier in person.

I, like many folk, thought our mascot was a representation of the red towel (that coach Diddle made famous) or the hill on which Western is located. But I only recently learned what Big Red really is. From http://www.kentucky.com/mld/heraldleader/2002/08/25/sports/3933597.htm:

The mascot doesn't talk. And it is neither male nor female...Big Red [is] a manifestation "of the spirit, the energy of a sporting event. It doesn't represent anything tangible."

That's deep, huh? They also say:

"The Hilltopper is the ultimate mascot," says ESPN spokesman Mike Humes. "You just look at him and you say, 'That's a mascot.' It's a perfect character for what we do."

I can't talk though, my mascot in High School was a Beaver, and it ended up being a Beaver in college too! Beavers seem to follow me wherever I go

We were neighbors! I was a swimmer in college, and I swam at UW-Oshkosh a few times. I had a few friends that went to school there. When did you graduate? I graduated in '00. What a small world.

High school in Madison, La Crosse for college, packed up car immediately after and headed west. Only made it as far as Colorado. Commenced with snowboarding.
