the problem with this thread is that the title and poll are completely different.

The nsx golden years (topic) is what turbo was saying--91. That's when it was a legendary, world-beating vehicle that changed the game.

The poll asks what is your favorite year range? I think that results in people voting for the years of their own car because they own and them and their own cars are their favorite (nothing wrong with that--being content is a great characteristic). My favorite is 02-05 because it was the final iteration of the nsx with lots of little things that were probably optimized.

Golden years and what your favorite year range are 2 completely different things.

Based on that, year 2000 was Honda's golden year... Just think, brand new you could purchase

-Civic Si (the good one)
-Integra GSR
-Integra Type R
-Prelude SH
-S2000
-NSX

I know many here will scoff at most of those cars, but that's quite a line up of cars that were designed with drivers in mind....

Great point. I loved my 99 Si. It never failed to put a smile on my face. I loved the ITR. Never got to own one but did get to drive one. Like a Civic Si on steroids. The S2000, particularly the 2000/2001 version, was a hoot to drive as long as you kept it between the ditches. In the hands of a capable and experienced driver it was a very lively dance partner. And of course the NSX...well...just the best road car ever built up to that time and maybe since.

The real Golden Year is the 1993 Coupe two tone Black top. That was the best year because they smoothed out and fixed all the kinks fron 91-92. 93's still had manual sterring. Also the last year Acura/Honda made the black top formula style. They stopped painting the black tops 94-05 due to high costs, so Honda painted 94-2005 all one color to save $$. Makes me laugh when owners want to change the black top to match the rest.
Therefore, the 93 NSX should be worth a little bit more than other coupes.
IMO, coupes should be more desirable for those that want a true solid track car performance.

How was that? Did I sound like one of the candidates feeding you a bunch of BS..... Well, some of it is actually true..

IMHO - 1993 was THE best year. Having owned a 1998 and now a 1993. 1993 is mod friendly being that it is the last obd1; coupe; and out of the snap ring gear production.

I dont miss the targa or the 6speed. I do miss the 3.2 though....

And now after my 2005 front conversion, I feel I have the best of both worlds...

Wrong, Wrong, and Wrong. 1994 was the last year of OBDI, and the last year of the black top, AND the last year of the coupe only. At least in the U.S., but both of you are in the U.S., so you are both incorrect when you state that the 93 was the last year.

Now that I got that off of my chest, I voted for the 97-01, because I thought those years represented the NSX the best. There was nothing wrong with the earlier NSX's, but I thought the 6-speed really made a big difference, as well as the added displacement. I personally do love the targa and thought it was a brilliant move on Acura's part. The pop-up headlights may look old, but they went the best with the vehicle. The fixed headlamps look too much like an afterthought to me. I think the power steering did ruin some of the steering feedback, but I definitely don't think it destroyed the car. To me, it seemed like the NSX was a brilliant car right out of the box, but Honda recognized they needed to improve on certain things that would highlight the car and take into the next decade. With the 1997 model I felt that they had done just that.

I have a 1994, and if it wasn't for my friend selling his, I may have never actually pulled the trigger on one. I do know that when I started talking to him about buying it I couldn't stop thinking how much I wished it was a 97-01, instead of a 1994. He purposely bought the car, because it didn't have power steering and wasn't a targa. So to each their own I guess. And of course if I had my dream NSX in the states it would be a Zanardi...............

91-94 original coupe gets my vote
But depends on personal preferences, for me it was easy
91-92 is the original version NSX and especially the lightest before the 40lbs power steering which I think was unnecessary in such a light car with less weight over front wheels
1992 was first year of GPW which I had to have
So 1992 first year GPW for me, prior to power steering, drive by wire, more weight and OBD2

Something to think about, that I do not believe I have shared with NSX prime:
"Supposedly" the deletion of power steering was highly based on Senna's request to remove it from the original prototype NSX, there really was no other reason for Honda to not put power steering, especially with such an emphasis on making the first "comfortable" supercar I can only imagine a F1 driver would argue it to be unnecessary. Before some primers ask, No, I do NOT have documentation to back this up, it is information I got from a conversation with a retired KART mechanic and supposed family friend of Senna's that I met when competing in Kart racing you can take it for whatever its worth. When it was told to me, I could only take it with a grain of salt, but then I was forced to ask myself, really why was there no power steering on the most comfortable and first Supercar boasting so much technology in 1991 built by a company that was already putting power steering in Honda civics and preludes way before the NSX came out. If there was one luxury that Honda would have wanted then power steering I think would one of them. Something to think about and, I won't argue about the source of the info since I really regret not picking his brain more, considering the guy never owned a NSX, but then I wondered WOW that was such a off the wall piece of information that who else would know or care to know not being a NSX fanatic. Plus how many people even really know only the 91-92 did not have power steering? Again something to think about, for whatever its worth. I should have picked his brain more, he really gave me a few things to think about regarding Senna and the NSX. Plus how quickly Honda added power steering only two years after release on design that saw so few changes year by year, it does imply they may have already had it designed and ready and may have been debating the luxury/comfort vs feel/weight for a few years before 93.

97-01. It has the best of everything. 3.2, 6 speed, targa and no fugly bug eye headlights.

They are all golden years! But it depends on what you're looking for - coupe or targa. If you want a targa - go to the latest one you can afford and you can't go wrong. Some like the bug eyes some don't - not a big deal but the best car is the newest one - the latest model with the lowest miles will always be your best bet for longevity. But if you don't want the bug eyes - go for the 2001 - plain and simple. But the cars are great in all forms - they are just amazing cars that are a miracle of production in Japan put together by hand - I mean there isn't another car like it in the world. You really can't go wrong with any of them but the older they are and the more miles they have the more you'll have to spend on them to get them in perfect shape.
