can someone tell me if the vtec functions are related to ABS and TCS..

I don;t think my vtec is engaging, but most people say you don;t feel it since its soo smooth, but I cannot see any drop in oil pressure nor hear any change in sound so I suspect it doesn't work.

My ABS and TCS light are on..

Thanks

Try it again with the TCS turned off. Also pull any ECU codes. Anyways you should not be able to hear or feel the Vtec come in and the oil pressure gauge is slow and unreliable so it may not indicate a pressure drop.

I can hear the sharp clicking of the VTEC solenoid both engaging and disengaging. Not sure if they're all that noisy, but others here have reported the same.

Hrm...I can hear AND feel when VTEC comes on in my car.

Absolutely not true!

If you can't tell the vtec is kicking in then something is wrong. Why not wire a light so you know for sure?

I've had my car for ten years and I've driven about 100K miles in it and I honestly can't tell when VTEC kicks in, never have felt it ever.

  Seriously? I can both hear (radio off, windows up) a little "click" of the VTEC and also feel a very slight boost. However, if you didn't know about VTEC, you'd probably never notice anything. Maybe the 3.0L engage slightly differently?

The old NA1 VTECs are definitely detectable by the driver as you described.

In fact, there are (I think) 3 changes that the engine makes as the RPMs increase. I believe that at 4100 rpm, the fuel pump relay switches to high voltage. I can easily hear mine click, especially since I am used to it after so long.

At some higher RPM, I think it is the intake runner length that changes. I can definitely be wrong about this.

Then, at over 5000 (5800 maybe, I forget what RPM exactly) VTEC kicks in.

The 2nd two make the engine growl a bit differently and I can feel a little bump in power from the VTEC change.

Very strange. I don't know if having an aftermarket exhaust (as I do) makes a difference, but it is very noticable on my car as far as sound goes.

My 91, stock, sounds very differently when vtech "kicks in".
I dont feel anything, however the engine makes a louder and higher pitched noise at about 6k. Everyone I have ever had as a passenger also hears the tone change. There is definately something happening at 6k.

Yeah, seriously. I've always just assumed that mine kicks in a little softer, you know, the exception to the rule. I know my car runs strong: it consistently dynos at 271 rwhp with headers and exhaust.

Next time I drive it, I'll have to pay more attention. Right now, however, I'm recuperating for surgery to my shifting arm. So it'll be a few weeks before I have any more input.
