I have seen this NSX on ebay 3 times now and it hasn't sold yet. It looks to be in great shape and I am wondering if there is more to it.

VIN is: JH4NA1153PT000407
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=599006601&r=0&t=0

It is relatively close to me, so if it checks clean, I would like to have a look.

Thanks,

Ultra low-res pictures of a white car = difficult to tell much of anything... But a few things did catch my eye after reading his description.

First, seller claims it has been upgraded with a "stronger gearbox." What, exactly, does that mean?

Seller also claims several times the car is stock, but also says it has "upgraded" brakes, clutch, and transmission and the roof has been painted to match the body. Interesting definition of stock. Anyway...

The trunk looks awfully wet even though every other part of the car is completely dry, including inside the wheels:

Seller claims full 60k maintenance was just completed within the last 50 miles. The 60k service includes replacing brake fluid (both ABS and regular). The brake fluid in this car is very dark and the level is fairly low. Most brake fluids are clear when they are fresh and new, and what technician wouldn't fill the fluid to the "full" level when changing it? I wonder what else in this claimed "60k maintenance" was skipped. Brake fluid is about as basic as you can get...

He mentioned the nose was repainted due to paint chips. I'd look at that carefully since the cross-piece in the middle of the nose does not appear to be nice and straight like it should be:

What kind of tires, rotors and brake pads are on this thing? Seller claims the brakes are "upgraded" brakes, but those look like cheap solid un-vented rotors! Also, note the nice camera angle which doesn't show how much pad is left...

Anyway, probably worth checking out given the price, but don't leap without looking...

From what I've seen, cars on eBay often don't sell because they're posted with a reserve price that's too high. May I ask what the highest bid was in the previous auctions, when the reserve wasn't met?

I would estimate that a '93 with 67K miles for sale by a private party should be selling for $34-38K if it's in excellent condition. That's a big "if" and Lud's perceptive observations show that this assumption may not apply here.

You may also want to note that the brake fluid level is very low too.

Vytas

Thanks all.

Wow Lud, you sure have great skills of observation! You pointed out a lot of VERY interesting things with this car.
Of course, the pictures were taken a long time ago. The car was on ebay in august, so that could be why the levels etc. are low.

Ken, the highest bid was 28,000. He had a buy it now for 31,000. KBB gives the car a 31,000 value. However, this car has had paint work, and I understand that lowers the value.

Thanks again!

I don't think paint work necessarily lowers the value; it depends on the circumstances. Usually paint work is required by an accident, and THAT lowers the value. I'm not sure that painting the roof, or painting the front clip because of chips, necessarily lowers the value.

Sounds like a good deal at $31K... especially since the '93 is free from problems that afflicted some of the '91-92 like the snap ring and the window clips.

Net Viper - I hope an excellent deal on a used NSX doesn't pop up in the South/Central region anytime soon! I'm afraid you and I would be direct competition for each other!

Your situation seems eerily similar to mine! Currently owns EBP Si, looking for good used NSX in the region - I think that pretty well describes you AND I! I'm always willing to take a trip to La, especially if there's a good NSX involved!

HeHe... I don't know about you, but I have a pretty limited budget, so you might snap one up before me!

That one in New Orleans sounds pretty good. I think you could get it up for 30K and that would be a good deal. The only thing that really bothers me is how long it has been listed. -- plus a lot of Lud's comments.

I like look around Dallas for NSX's. They always seem to have a pretty good selection of used 91-93's.

I was going to mod out my civic, but I decided why waste the money when the car I really want is the NSX.

I have seen a few good deals in Austin and Houston always seems to have a lot.

Good luck in your hunting!
