Victoria Day Lapping at Mosport

It was nice to meet you to George! Loved the rims. I hope to see you around more! Fabulous day. Good instruction to. Most of the guys there were good and courteous drivers. Some treated it like a race which was unfortunate, but they didn't wreck it for the rest of us.

The M3 lifted going down turn 2, got into the grass, over corrected to get back on the track, caught traction - that spun him, spit him into the wall, bounced and hit the other wall and came to a stop off of 3. No one was hurt, but the car might be done. Too bad.:frown:

A GT3 cup car spun at 5, he was fine but didn't apply his brakes and rolled into oncoming traffic. Bump. The damage was done and his day was over.

Its important for anyone who's never tried the track before to note two important points:

1) This is the GP Track I was talking about, not the small, safe, DDT

2) Both of these cars didn't have instructors or properly taught drivers in them - both of these "mistakes" are rookie stupidity that would not have happened had the drivers had more experience and knowledge - ie. went to more schools vs. just going out and driving and thinking they're great drivers

So true. Many of the drivers should have attended the school. Including a few 'advanced' and 'intermediate' level drivers.

The school this Friday will have slower speeds, much greater run offs, and overall a much better starting point if you have never been on a track before. A few events like this then you could sign up for the Kensai school, which I have to say was excellent. Taught by a pro race car driver, not a volunteer. We received hours of coaching on Monday. Very personalized to. I am a much more proficient driver as a result. Not the fastest, but my line was "spot on".

Jebus!

There is a HUGE difference between a school and a day with most of the group doing hot laps with a few instructors kicking around.

Rookies are unlikely to believe that they need an instructor for many days. You need maturity, experience or guidance to make that decision. It is so easy to get carried away on the track too early. IMO, and I have benefitted from this as much as anyone, the most important role for an instructor is to tell the driver to back off. When you're a rookie, you dont know when to do that

So please dont take a couple incidents at this day as indicative of what happens at the Hanson's DDT day. It is something completely different than this day.

Cant wait for it. Hope the weathers dry

The stuff that happened on this day was a direct result of too much ego, too little experience, and not enough instruction.

Typically the guys who crash have something to prove and are sure they are WAY more advanced than their experience level.

I look at it like flying planes, its about hours in the cockpit, not the speed of the plane. I run in the very advanced groups, put in great lap times, and still take an instructor as often as I can (and still go to driving schools)

I've had some serious shit happen a few weeks ago when I broke my (loaded) control arm in what is considered to be the most dangerous turn on the track - and I was going over 100mph. I was fine, didn't hit any walls, kept safe and managed the car safely to a stop.

Experience didn't help me press the gas to get the car to 100 mph, but it sure helped me get it to 0 mph without losing control.
