I've noticed a few NSXs forsale say the previous owned did X, but they dont have records.

With the VIN, can I call Acura and find out? Or is there another way to verify the service history?

If you have the owner call the dealer and give their consent the dealer will give you the history or at least they should. Not sure for other non-Acura shops.

From my previous experience, until you are the registered owner they will not show you the service history, but they can confirm if such service was preformed at the said dealership.

As the responses from others have implied, the dealer (or mechanic) that performed the services has records. The dealer service records are not centralized nationwide, though; you cannot get records unless you contact the specific dealer who performed the service. The exception is with recalls and certain other services described in TSBs, for which Acura HQ may have records, records which can be accessed by any dealership. But those records will not include scheduled maintenance or non-warranty repairs.

Good info.
So I guess short of finding out where the previous owner lived and calling all surounding acura dealers, you just have to take someone word for it.

Even if you're the registered owner, they WILL NOT give you a printout of the service record. However, they would be more than happy to tell you what service was done at their shop. They told me that it's confidential information from the original owner which includes personal address/credit card info/etc.

Unless you can find the original owner and ask him/her to get a copy from the shop itself.

Wouldn't it be problematic if the car was serviced at an independent shop or some place other than an Acura dealership? There would be no way to verify this other than contacting the original owner I'm assuming. I'm guessing not a lot of independent shops have a network database, correct? Or is there another way to find this out?

Aside from those recalls and certain warranty work, there is no difference between getting records for maintenance and repair work done at a dealership, and getting records for maintenance and repair work done at an independent shop. Neither one has service work reported in a centralized, nationwide network database. You would need to contact the individual dealership or shop and see if you could get the records.
