Is the SEARCH feature currently not fully active? It allows you to enter a search argument, but returns "no results".

Am guessing the "search index" is not fully populated yet ??

I am currently rebuilding the search index. It will take a several more hours. The index is big. Expect the server to be slow until it finishes - it is a pretty server-intensive process.

Doesn't like short posts!

Is the minimum length of a post a parameter that can be changed?

I just tried posting an answer to a question. I quoted the question, and tried posting the answer, "Yes." as my post. It got rejected for being less than the minimum length of 10 characters.

It was a legitimate post.

I can even think of posts where 1 character is legitimate:

"How many pistons are in each NSX front brake caliper?"

What's the colored square under each person's post count? When I move the mouse over it, a message appears, "(USERNAME) is off the scale".

Changed to 1.

There are a LOT of new features like this and most are still set at default so let me know what you guys run into.

It is the user reputation (rating) system. It is enabled but I haven't messed with it yet. The
reputation.gif
button under a user's name lets you give them positive or negative reputation points. The reputation system is very configurable. I'll look at it in detail once I get more stuff fixed.

Re: Doesn't like short posts!

Wow... most radical update to Prime so far. But i'm pleased to see our traditional green :D smiley has survived.

* Default Avatars in Control Panel are not displaying... not that's a problem for me. ;)
* In "User CP" under "Attachments", clicking Show/Hide Thumbnails does nothing.
* No Top 50 user posts... under Membership. But that's not really important.
* NSXTASY has over 13,000 posts... that has to be a mistake. ;) (lol, time to cull that post-counter :D :D :D)

Don't know if anyone is having this trouble, but the layout of the new forums is not a readable. Having the original posters name under the thread title spaces out the thread names too much. (hence making it more difficult to read)

ie.

<FONT SIZE=2>nsx1164</FONT>

Also, the fact the original poster's name is clickable (links to their profile) is not so good... i already did one mis-click. But this is just a trival matter.

I just want to say, good job, I like the changes and it's still easy to use. I actually came here to inquire about the "reputation" rating system, but I think I know how it works. Good stuff!

Here's something else where I'm guessing a change in a configuration parameter would be helpful.

When you look at a topic, there is a "Quick Reply" box at the bottom, which lets you enter a reply. Handy! However, it is not enterable; it contains only a grayed-out message that you need to click the quick reply icon in one of the messages in order to activate the quick reply function. Obviously very klugey. I'm betting there is a parameter that will let the Quick Reply function be automatically active, so you can post your reply in the bottom box without the extra step of clicking the icon. (Before anybody bets against this, I should mention that I've seen the Quick Reply automatically active on other forums that are using this software.)

Looks good! Pretty quick turn-around & only a few little bugs that are already being addressed.
I see a lot of Avatars have a red x instead of the picture diplayed on some members - what's with that?

Most Recent Posts

With the previous version, when a member first opened the forums, near the upper-right corner were the words "View Recent Posts" (or something very similar) in blue words. Clicking on this shows threads which received new posts since your last visit to the forums.

I hope it is not right in front of my eyes, but I do not see that quick link anymore.....where is it? With the current version, you have to go into each category folder to open and look for the the word "Today" or the last known date I visited which was August 21st.

It is right under your eyes. Click on "new posts" between "calendar" and "search."

Maybe it's me but I can't seem to find where to add pics to my gallery?

Is the trader rating system going to be coming back?

"NSX Prime has been upgraded to vBulletin version 3.03. As I am sure you have already noticed this is a big upgrade and many things look or work differently. Please take some time to get familiar with the new software if you have not used this version before on other websites. I will be working this week to add back all the little features like the NSX Prime graphics and navigation bar, trader rating system, vendor ads, etc. Please be patient."

The trader rating system is in the works, as noted above.

The user reputation and trader rating systems are not the same thing.

I am working on Trader Rating now. I have to modify a bunch of the files in the new version of vB. Trader Rating is a hack, not part of the officual vBulletin software.

User Reputation is part of vBulletin. It lets users rate other users based on the content of their posts. I have not configured it yet or decided if I want to keep it or not. I am trying to fix other things first.

The Photopost Gallery is broken right now. I'm working on it but having some trouble. Hopefully I'll get it straightened out soon.

The search index is rebuilt now. I explicity included the numbers 1-50 in the search database so you can now search for Zanardis by number (i.e. it will let you search for zanardi 8) even though the normal minimum word length for search keywords is 3 characters.

I also have the server generating the "similar threads" searches at the bottom of new threads.

The search engine is a lot more powerful now and I can tweak how it weights search results. Everything is default now but I may go in and play with it some later to try and optimize it for the types of searches common on this site.

Thumbnails are not currently enabled. I need to install GD2 on the server for that feature to work. I'm not sure if I want to use thumbnails or not.

I need to rebuild all the counters and stats. I did the critical one last night and will try to get the rest in the next few days. Some take a long time to generate.

My initial thought is that I don't like it either, but it seem to be the way all the forums software is going. I'm going to leave it that way for a while and see if it's just something that takes getting used to. If not, I will look at changing the template.

I think this is just a "takes some getting used to" issue.

The reason for making you click the quick reply button in the message is so the system knows what message you are replying to. I can disble that, and let people just start typing in the quick reply box at the bottom and hit Submit, but then the threaded and hybrid thread views become useless.
