Anyone know where, or who has/get SoS parts or any other exclusive Nsx parts locally? Just having to think when times comes for me to get all the goodies, the delivery, customs, taxes, maybe even picking up at the customs department will prove more headaches and deplete the satisfaction of modifying our cars. So far most of the parts I have bought were in Japan ( www.advance-jp.com ), and shipped back, and if you have done this before to Canada, you know customs will surely penalize your ars for spending money outside of the country. The widebody panels I bought in Japan, the owner of the shop (Susumu) had to convince his friend's fishing company to tag it on to their boat, 'cuz dam dhl, ups, even FedX told me it was too large for individual delivery to my residence. Mind you the documents for this (i never knew before) turned out more headaches, as the shipper(fishing boat) did not provide (3) all the papers needed for landing acceptance. OMG..delayed 3 weeks in customs in order for me to get the proper translation to them what I needed(totalling 3 months). Hope to not do this again. Places in central Vancouver would be ideal for me. Thx.

I have imported a few car parts from Asia numerous times, I didn't have too much difficulty from my experience. Generally, customs will charge 6% on auto parts that are not North America made, which doesn't make a difference even if you buy the parts from local shops, coz the shops already have this cost built in to their price.

I think what you should have done is get the shops in Japan to issue invoices in English or French, and ship via freight instead of Fedex, you will just need to go to the airport to clear the custom yourself or you can hire a custom broker. I always do it myself.

I know there are a few shops that will do special orders, which usually takes a long time, but why would you pay the middle man if you know where and how to buy the parts directly from the shop in Japan.

Feel free to pm me if you need more information.

I actually don't know how to ship anything out from asia, aside from the usual dhl, FedX etc. The owner (Susumu) was nice enough to do all the shipping for me for a few hundred bucks Cdn, which I'm sure it went to the shipping company. Advice on the documents being in "English" is a great idea! Altho if u have been to Japan, especially if you are outside of the great cities, it's almost impossible to find an English speaking Japanese, let alone get documents in English. I am sure I paid more than 6%, as you stated, and for what reason I have no idea. The lady at the customs(altho very nice) kept asking me why I would buy these parts from Japan, and not domestically, so I just wanted to pay and get outa there, knowing I won't get my stuff if I don't! Another incident (let me know if u think this is correct), I had a clutch, and coil overs worth around $6,000 Cdn total, post office to my house, and upon delivery I had to pay around $780 or so if I rem. The hardware were heavy, that was my guess on the extra $'s.

Mind I share some of my modifying experiences? Susumu put pics up when they were at the docks to ship my things, and had some pics of him/me and the body kit I got, onto his website. Kinda cool considering he is a well respected Nsx racer in Japan and are in many of the car magazines there. Guess it's his way of showing gratitude with me spending freakin' over $12g's Cdn at his place at one time! :) Check out the size of the boxes.
www.advance-jp.com ---> click on left column 'yellow' advance text --->click calender to January 19th 2007 (him and I)--->Jan.22nd (my stuff).
He's kinda "big-sized" for an NSX in my mind! LOL. Thx for the advice driftcars, maybe I will take up your offer on what to do in the future on these. :)

There is usually a CBSA postal import form attached if it's delivered by Canada Post, box 5 of the form is the "value for duty" which is the amount the taxes and duty are based on. Box 6 is the duty rate and amount, box 7 is excise tax, box 8 is GST/HST, box 9 is PST, box 14 is Handling fee, Canada Post charges a minimum of $5.

$780 is probably the GST and PST of your $6,000 parts.

By the way, is your NSX white? I just happened to see a white one in a body shop last month in Vancouver.

The reason I had to ship freight, or more accurate, on the back of a fishing boat was cuz the parts were oversize for personal carry and they wouldnt' take it. DHL does most of them here in Asia, but having checked ups and FedX..all said no..too big..wth? It was the rocket panels that kept me from shipping anything postal. My car is Kaiser silver...but ya, still in the shop until I get back to Vancouver. Soon i hope :)
