Why does Acura charge a $6k premium for these two colors? Is there any difference in number of coats applied, paint quality, etc to justify such a steep price premium? I could understand the $700 charge for the silver, casino white, etc PEARL colors over the flat colors (curva and 130r white), but $6K??? I'm at the Acura dealership right now looking at a TLX in Still Night Pearl (blue), and it looks great! It still has the pearls in the paint. Closer inspection reveals that perhaps it may not have as many "flakes" like the Nouvelle Blue in the NSX, but it is close and looks awesome. There's also no surcharge for this paint color on the TLX. I wouldn't mind this color on the NSX for $700.

Anyways, just curious as to why Acura charges so much for these two colors. I guess since it's an NSX, they feel they can justify the premium up-charge.

Supposedly the red & blue paints are special aerospace painting processes (developed by Richard Branson) and used on the NSX:

Pittsburgh Paint and Glass (PPG)’s Andaro paint chemistry utilizes a premium dye pigment mid-coat technology that provides an exceptionally high level of color saturation (chroma) typically used on high end concept cars. The effect further accentuates the NSX exterior design by increasing the contrast between the surfaces and changing the color value slightly when viewed at different angles. Andaro color schemes for the all-new Acura NSX are:

Nouvelle Blue Pearl
Valencia Red Pearl

For owners of these cars, it may make sense to clear bra the entire car to protect this paint. Who knows how hard it will be to match after the fact when damaged.

I think it's a combination of the latest paint tech from PPG and the fact it takes 8 times longer to cure after painting before the panels can be assembled. 16 vs 2 hours.

If you haven't seen the blue in person, it's really stunning in all types of lighting.

Thanks all for the great info. Yeah those two colors are great...I’m just questioning the upcharge. I have the nouvelle blue and inside the garage with little lighting, the color looks just ok. However, once outdoors in sunlight the color is just stunning. It pops, and the color seems to be “50 shades of blue” depending on the angle. Lol

Nsxmas, what color did you get?

I believe Porsche and an upcharge of $11,580 for their [FONT=arial, sans-serif]Saffron Yellow so the $6K is not out of line.

I have only seen the blue indoors and that didn't provide an opportunity to see it at its best.

I have seen the red outdoors and the car looks like a giant jewel on wheels.
