Am detailing the underside of my Car, and am in the upper wheel well area.
Beyond the plastic inner fender, was this area left painted the car color?
Or was there originally an under coating? I have cleaned to the point where its red (color of car) Just wanted to know if it was left this way? Or did they spray it with a black under coating.
Thanks!

Wow, 30 views and no one knows?
Plan to finish up this weekend.
Will either re-shoot a light under coating or leave it painted.
Anyone know how they came from the factory?
I know they were wax injected in this area, just not sure of the
final finish?
Thanks

I believe it should be the color of the car. There are areas where a coat of black paint has been applied over the red but these are where you can casually see them while standing up and observing the car. For instance, the area behind the side vents has a coat of semi gloss black. The part you are talking about you would have to get down on the ground to see and I don't believe was a concern of the factory.
Now I have a question for you. Why would you bother detailing the bottom of your car? If it was covered in mud I could understand a quick wash, but detail?
You sound like a crazy person.

Thanks!

"You sound like a crazy person"
Bingo!

I guess its from all restorations I have done in the past 20 yrs.
When I get a new to me "special" car I initially go over it pretty well.
Have been known to wax the painted areas under cars as well.
Keeps junk from sticking, and always cleans up easier.
It takes a full day out of your life, but to me the results are worth it.
Thanks again for the detailed description.

(Added) I should not have used the term 'detail'. I am simply cleaning things up as the car is on jack stands for other work I am doing.

Man these cars are stiff. I let down the floor jack and the car was resting on 3 of the 4 stands!
Amazing! Tossed a shim in just to be safe. But WOW!

You REALLY need to go to eBay and check out the white '92 that was just listed. The photo's from under the car are unreal - polished differential and suspension parts etc. Amazing (and anal) attention to detail.
