Primers, in the interest of full disclosure I am throwing my wife a surprise 40th birthday party tonight and must drive the X into NYC. The forecast calls for periods of light rain so if my car EVER comes up for sale and I say in the for sale thread that it has never seen rain, know that it did at least once within my ownership.. Thank you all for taking the time out to listen to me be truthful and forthcoming. It has been quite therapeutic these couple of minutes knowing I can confess to you all and not be banished like an outcast. JT

Is there something wrong with your paint? Automotive paint is one of strongest products that can withstand the elements. Unless you never plan on driving your car it really makes no difference if it gets wet. It's not like the NSX is a rare Shelby Cobra that was stored in a barn for 40 years.

Just drive it and don't worry.

I got over that "don't drive in the rain" mentality a while ago. Its a car, drive it. Enjoy it. It was built for you to enjoy it. It wont melt because you drove it in the rain. Now i try to drive it every chance i get, rain or shine. Everytime i drive it, it reminds me how awesome this piece of art is. Smiling ear to ear.. stop sweating over the small stuff and have fun.

Banish Him!! Jk. But seriously, banish him!

I was cursed with rain the day I went to pick up my NSX from the previous owner, it was light rain, but I wasn't about to wait another couple of days for the transaction. Car's made of aluminum, I'd be more worried about NYC traffic than rain.

It is only a car but each of us has their own personal experience with it.I can appreciate those who wish to cherish it and treat it specially ,as I respect those who drive it hard and put away wet.

Hell I just finished a track day and it was pouring down with rain for half of it, incredibly tricky conditions she'll be fine with a drive into town

Although I also don't drive my car in the rain, that would not bother me so much compared to driving it in NYC. Be careful, bro..

^This. I will say I made it home safe and sound as it was just a light rain for a short time as well. Also my paint is just fine and it's not that I worry about getting the car wet, it's the other drivers in NYC (mainly taxicabs) that concern me! Lastly, I bought a targa because I like to have the top OFF whenever I drive the car, not have it on.. Can't do that in the rain!

Personally, I never believe anyone that says their car was never driven in the rain on a for sale ad. And I certainly wouldn't add value to the car for that. A car not caught in the rain once in awhile hasn't been driven much. Though I will try to avoid driving in the rain whenever I can because I like to keep the front and rear compartments clean and they are a PITA to clean. But, rain was also taken into consideration when our cars were designed and I'm more worried about other drivers than I am of the wet weather characteristics of the NSX. As long as the tires are in good shape it will perform well in the rain with proper respect for the conditions. I know of about 100+ NSXs that have been driven in the rain that were at last year's NSXPO (it rained almost every day) and we all still enjoyed the trip.

I feel the same way mostly because I can't take advantage of the power and also it looks like shite after the rain dries it never ever looks close to clean. Re wash.

This thread is funny. I really enjoy driving in rain. Especially NSX. Just don't run slicks and you'll be more than fine

On my way home from Arkansas after picking up the car, I was outrunning a thunderstorm basically the entire time. I had to sleep eventually though, so it caught up to me then.

I laugh at the people that say my car has never seen rain... Yeah Right.....
there is always that time where it was sunny and you ran inside your house to get the key to the office, and you walk back outside and it just started raining, you then pull the car into the garage and take the
BMW instead.... so its seen rain..... another scenario is new at the dealerships NSX's would be sitting in a row ( 4-5 ) outside for a few weeks till they sell and they are washed everyday by the dealership, cuz who wants to buy a dirty car thats been sitting outside?

so " my car has never seen rain " LOL

When I first saw this thread title, I thought "oh, boy, here come the flames."

But I understand the OP (but not why we are so busy that we can't say or type the full "NSX" instead of just "X"). There are a number of reasons I try to not drive my NSX in the rain.

One is the other drivers and how stupid and dangerous they can be in the dry; forget about it in the wet, even more ridiculous. Another is my commute. When it rains here in South Florida, the roads become clogged and usually traffic is clutch-wasting stop-go.

But my primary reason is because I did a paint correction a few years ago, and got most of the swirl marks out . And if I can avoid washing the car , I do so. Even with two-bucket method, dabbing the dry towels on the paint surface vs. swiping across the paint, and using microfiber towels, and keeping fresh wax on it so it's the wax and not the clearcoat that is taking the abuse, it STILL is getting swirl marks again. (Forumla Red.) It's a driver-quality NSX, not perfect by any stretch of imagination.

I don't think the clearcoat will stand up to another paint correction, so I am all about driving it only when it's not raining, so I don't have to wash it again.

I thought the previous owner of my car was crazy for removing the wipers. "It looks cleaner without them and I never drive in the rain."

But, I have yet to put the wipers back on and will probably just RainX the sh*t out of the windshield. Not going out in the rain in mine either. Also got a cooling plate which blocked the washer reservoir.

I also haven't washed it with water since I had the paint correction done. Just dust and wipe with quick detailer. No swirl marks so far...
