This looks very nice imho untill..............you see it with the roof on hideous.
The person that designed the roof on this car completely destroyed the good looks and it doesn't look very weather resistant with it..
Sadly enough, there are lots of countries with climates where we need a roof

Bad ass car and kudos to Porsche for having the balls to bring a $60,000+ car to the market NOW that doesn't have A/C, a radio, etc. and makes do with straps for door handles.

Since I'm lucky enough to live in S. CA where a proper top isn't necessary more than 10 months a year, I'd be very much into this if I were shopping for a new convert.

The top although it looks flimsy is good for up to 100 mph. Should be quite a little car.

Yes, the roof looks like it's an "emergency" roof for unexpected rain. VERY ugly. Just leave it at home and drive the NSX when it gets cloudy.

FYI: most of the weight reduction is a result of the aluminum doors (GT3RS doors), removal of the electric top, and the GT2 carbon-kevlar Recaro bucket seats. The radio and the AC can be added back in (nice option that makes sense) It is a nice homage to the RS Spyder that was succesful in LMP2.

BTW:: The Sports Classic Edition of the 911 is not considered a "lightweight version" at all, it is a special edition that resembles the bygone era of the ducktail 911's of the 1970's, has a slightly more powerful engine compared to the regular Carrera S, uses the C4S body in a RWD setup, has PCCB standard, a special rooftop, Fuch's style wheels, special interior, and it is also a limited production model only with a total of 250 being made.

I am also very confident it is a great drive, but far from a great value. 60k+ buys you a lot of car these days, especially if you are willing to buy a one year old one. If you think about it, it's difficult to find a non exotic you can't* buy for 60k that's 1-2 years old.

FYI, The GT2 seats alone are worth 6K at least, add to that the standard LSD, Sports PASM, Sports Chrono, Aluminum door, GT3 style wheels, etc.

You can't build a 987.2 Boxster S with the DFI engine with the options provided by Porsche stock for a price less than 60K.

You can't buy a 2009 Boxster S and build it to be like a Spyder for less than what Porsche is chargning for the car. (BTW: The 2005-2008 Boxsters don't count they don't have the same engine, the DFI engine alone would set you back about 15-20K with the engine retrofit).

The Spyder is causing quite a number of double takes from the Porsche faithful because they do recognize the value of the package.

Anyways just my 2 cents.

It is not possible that the roof on that car is the actual roof Porsche designed to come with that car. That car is very nice; the "roof" on the car belongs on a utility shed.

I swear I saw a Boxster just like that on the NYS Thruway about a month ago.

It was black and was clearly a Boxster. The rear headrest/trunk/spoiler treatment was just like it. I was in my MDX and was behind it and then went along side to really check it out. Then the driver decided to go much faster than I wanted to and disappeared.

I went on line to find such accessories or where you could get such a option for a Boxster but found nothing.

Sometimes a executive or designer can get a car before it is released. My cousin saw a C6 Z06 a good year ahead of it's release on the road and it turned out to be the head of the project taking the car over to Lime Rock. My cousin got some pics of him and the car at my cousin's shop.

Wonder if this was such a car. Sure looked hot.

All of what you posted is accurate as far as I know but my point is I wouldn't pay 6k for the seats to start with nor do I think anyone would pay 20k for the retrofit that is not all that significant IMO. Porsche options/upgrades are extremely expensive, slapping them on the car and charging 80% of their retail price is not necessarily a great deal.

I have to agree with you re the cost of Porsche options. I have owned probably 10 P-cars over the years. The last one was a 993 coupe. I was recently shopping for a new car for the wife and shopped the 997 S coupe and though I liked the car when I started to add basic options the price went crazy and the dealership looked at me like people were lining up to drop $100K + on a coupe. I was so disappointed in their attitude I went out and bought her a new Mercedes E coupe and she loves it. BTW that was less than $60K OTD and nicely optioned. Sorry Porsche - had you been at all reasonable I would have driven off in a new 997 S.

No offense but a MB E coupe is not in same league as a 911S. Personally I would have gotten a E coupe too if you were looking for a nice car for your wife.:wink:
