Nice find! I have actually seen that video before but it was in Japanese. Never seen it in English! Props!!!

i collected all the best motoring dvds back in the day..esp the vtec ones. i have that somewhere. good memories.

i've always wondered how he upshifts without the clutch but heel toes with the clutch pedal down

Anyone notice that he is not using the clutch on the up shifts? Sequential trans designed that way?

I don't know if you've ever noticed how Keiichi Tsuchiya drives, but most of the time on upshifts he doesn't use clutch... he just lifts off of gas and changes gears when syncro's rev match. In this case a sequential gear box allows him to just lift the pedal and shift.

Surely he would do that on down shifts, when he blips the throttle to match revs...

Old-style sequentials like on the GT1 car require the clutch for the downshifts. Nowadays, clutch is fully automated...

You could not shift up without a clutch unless you had a tranny like that dog box
