Tubi vs. GruppeM V2 vs. Taitec GT

Hmmm... Interesting. The exhaust on a car should not normally be usually stinky, even without cats. What did the odor smell like? Did it smell like sulfur (i.e. rotten eggs)? If so that might indicate bad gas (too much sulfur in it) or perhaps your car is running too rich.

I think mine is running a bit on the rich side which would explain the smell. Definitely not the sulfur smell. I really liked the way it sounded with the cats off and wish I could have kept it that way. The NY rats (the size of our cats but do come in larger sizes) will have to do for now. LOL!

Chris, thanks for explaining the "knocking" sound which turned out to not really be something knocking, but rather like the car gargling with Listerine?! Oy ivey!

After chatting with Miled offline, I just want to clarify about the gargling sound. I can only hear it when I'm standing directly behind my car, not when I'm standing on the side or when I'm driving.

Confucius says:
Running in front of a car ... you'll get tired.
Running behind a car ... you'll get exhausted.

I don't know why I thought about that.

Again, even the 'gargle" is a matter of taste. I am surprised some people confuse it with a rattle. I let my F360 idle in my driveway a good ten minutes just to walk around it and listen to the "gargle" of my Tubi. I got to enjoy listenning to the same gurgle on my NSX too. The mightiest exhaust sounds of the 70's and the 80's like the 365 Daytona, the BB, TR and other 12cyl Ferraris all had that type of sound. I finally listened to the Taitec last week end on an NSX and did not like it all and so did another NSX "old timer" who was with me. I can understand even more why it is very subjective and should be left to the user to like a sound or dislike it.

LMAO!!!!!!!

Thanks for the explanation, Chris. I HAVE heard this "gurgle" on Keith's car and I didn't think anything of it other than it being part of the exhaust sound. I am relieved to know it's no issue at all. I just hope the tips will align.

have the JGTC Parallel on my car, with cats
- some "booming", particularly on upshifts
- some "gurgling" when you lift off the gas (i.e., after you blip on downshift)

Sound IS very subjective... Taitec and RM do NOT have that "metallic" sound that Comptech (and presumably Tubi) have. I listened to several Ferraris recently with both OE and Tubi systems and this higher-pitched metallic sound seems to be consistently there.

idle -- subjective

getting on it -- subjective, but IMO most of them do a good job here -- depends on whether you like lower vs higher pitch

coming off throttle -- early RM/B&B had the resonance/rattling; Taitec JGTC VERY good here IMO

cruising -- Taitec is a bit loud here, particularly around 3500-4500 RPM. Maybe too loud for some folks

If anyone cares. I took the box that the Tubi came in and went to Mail Boxes etc. and weighed it @ 7 lbs. They happened to have some dense spray type packing foam for specialty items and were familar w/its weight. I estimated 40% fill w/o the Tubi and they told me about 5 to 6 lbs of additional weight. UPS Label 48lbs - 12 or 13lbs gives a weight of 35/36lbs. Don't know how accurate as its just their guess.

I've listened to the "gargle" sound on mine, and never thought anything was wrong. It's really just the way it idles. The one thing that does interest me is that, during warm up/idle, there always seems to be more visible exhaust gas/emmissions/moisture coming from the driver's side tailpipe. After the car is warm, there is no difference. Anyone else notice this? Just a curious phenomenon. And yes, the sound does "mature" over time-just like some of us, it gets better with age. I have also noticed that the tips "pull away" from the valence, ever so slightly, when the pipes are hot. Must be from heat expansion. I'm glad they choose to move away from, rather than closer to, the valance.

Keith,
yes, I saw that smoke on the left side too on Charles's car.
Andrie said that was normal.
I just got the GruppeM exhaust, love the exhaust sound and look

So your Tubi is from the most recent batch, not the original?? I thought they only changed the hangers (pre-bent them upward.)

Not sure how to restify it. My neighbor said use a broom stick. There is no way in hell I'm going to try that trick. Any other suggestions?

A muffler shop can apply a torch and gently coax the tips into alignment. This trick works with regular steel exhaust pipe, not sure if it works with stainless.

Wadasan,
I was just at Larry's last week. I normally go to the monthly social gathering at his shop without joining them for dinner. Thanks for the compliment!

Russ,
They might have adjusted the hangers only. Whatever they did, they messed up the tips alignment. I just worry about if I use the torch to straighten the tips, it may melt the valence. Unless if they can find a way to insulate it from the exhaust. Has anyone tried that on the Tubi yet? Otherwise, I'd try the broom stick before I use a torch.

insx,

that is an accurate description of the GMs. The more aggressive you push the car, the louder it gets. It almost sounded angry in a very nice way. I miss it already. The GM is my top choice for an aggressive exhaust... although I heard the ARC Ti in person and that thing screams too.

We are very luck to have so many choices comparing with a couple of years ago (RM, Comptech, DC, RSR, Remus, HKS). Thanks for SoS, Dali, Alex V., Tino and Anytime ...etc, we have so many varieties to choose from.

CDube,
now I just need to "break-in" the exhaust,
how long it takes for your GM exhaust to break in?
Please give me suggestion on shorthening the break-in period?

I only had less than 1500 miles on my GM. So I don't think it is full opened up. But the sound is already very satisfying the moment I installed it.

Today, I drove my car w/Tubi for the second time. It is a very smooth sound hearing it from the driver seat. I think replacing the K&N cone filter with a cold air induction will further enhance that sound. It idles just slightly louder than stock. The best sound is from 3k to 6k. Anything over that the exhaust went quieter.
