Trev's Clutch Blows A Spring.....R & R Stock to O.S. Giken.

p.s. It actually sounds like there is a two alarm fire in the elementary school thats across the field or the Bank of Canada just got robbed around the corner.

C'mon :P forget those people that criticise or mock at you... that is pure ignorance at work

Those who 'know' about the noise... know whats up

It's not like you're trying to impress random people, right?

Sorry to hear about your clutch. The same thing happened to my stock twin-disc clutch even though I don't have forced induction. I replaced it with a Comptech clutch which I have since heard often wears out the thrust bearings in the engine block, allowing the crankshaft to wander over time, because of the increased pressure when you depress the pedal. Not a perfect solution, either.

I'm thinking a stock rebuilt unit is the way to go.
Little heavier pressure plate and reinforced pads.

Trev, it's a great clutch if you can't stand the noise and are going to sell it (cheap ) let me know. That's how I bought my Exedy the guy just could not stand the rattle on a DD car but for the track who cares.

Just an FYI: a floating disk clutch is a hard sell as most people can't stand the sound at a stop light  It's too bad who ever sold it to you didn't tell you about the noise. I've had the Exedy for so long I don't hear it anymore.

Jeff, the most you will ever get out of me is a drink and you got that at Nsxpo. I have wonderful people to deal with and they will take care of me.
Otherwise, those baseball batz in my truck I showed you at Nsxpo will come out. lol
I hate the fact that you scavenge off of the poor and weak!!!

Its not going to get any better but the good news is it won't get any worse  without springs holding the plate (clutch peddle in) you can only replace it with something (stock like). I did ask around for a stocker to rebuild but non so far.

You can always get ear plugs  or just turn up that bad boy Bose

sorry to hear about ur clutch trev. the giken clutch sure did sound noisy i don't think i will be able to handle that noise either especially in a daily driven nsx.

Update.......Oct 11 2008
This clutch is still noisy but I love the way it works.
Easy pedal feel - I adjusted the clutch pedal to where I like it.
Please note everyone, that you can adjust your pedal and at what point your clutch engages. Its easy and might change your life in your nsx.
Engages nicely - Not as nice as stock but very nice. It has no little springs in the friction disks to give a little, so she hooks up tight once engaged completely.
Daily Drivable - Well except for the noise. - I drive my car all day everyday.
Hillable - If thats a word, you then know what I mean.

Man, I hate to give this up! Maybe if I threw some sawdust into the works, she would shut up!

I drove a RPS the other day and did not like the pedal feel. Don't know if my bad 47 year old knee could tolerate that as a daily driver.
It release right at the top, like real top, so with an adjustment slightly down to midpoint, maybe it would fit my knee mechanics better.

I wanted to drive one more on a 97 but MC Dave is not returning my calls.

Shad suggests I grab a Comptech Powergrip One as the replacement.

Have to make a decision soon.

Trev, I would like to adjust my clutch to engage not as high. Today it engages toward the top of the pedal throw.
I will have to check the manual.

thanks for the tip.

Well I yanked the O.S. Giken out Sunday Aft to return it.
I have the reinforced stock unit now plus a new master and slave.
Also bought the Minivac mitmv6835 for buddy Ed so we can change fluids fast now.
Ed was busy this day with his Granpi's 90 Birthday so I tackled the job myself. Of course there where a few phone calls made for tech assist.
Its a bitch to bench press the transmission down onto your chest, but a guy has to do what a guy has to do.
Everything looked brand new as I put her back into the box.
Some pics for your viewing pleasure.

WTF: Why Trev WHY
It's just a little noise but it's working great

I know who bought your OS clutch

Trev, Hope you found what you like  must be a Canadian thing.....quiet clutches what about the Ducati's

Well I got her done and wow what a difference.
This thing is like stock, well I guess since it is it is.
Not sure if a stronger nsx should have this light of an nsx, kind of goes against the grain.....lol
Everything bolted up nice and tight, also cleaned a few parts that had been really dirty.
Couldn't figure out how to check the shift cable lengths though even though i took it all apart back there and looked and measured and what not. But everything seems to be bang on in the shifting department.
Changed out the rear struts to the 04 I had bought and will do the fronts later.
Changed the whipple pulley down in boost to the 4.0" 3.0 high boost @ 8" from the 3.8" 3.2L high boost @ 9.5" one.
Got to change up injectors and RRFPR yet, but she runs fine at 2200' and some 60 point fuel additive.
O.S. Giken is crossing the border as we speak....goodbye and thanks for the memories.
Trev

Yes, enjoying it immensely!!!
Well except today as I walked to the garage and snow fell on my nose.
Thanks so much for offering to lend me your big 250 ft/lb torque wrench!
I didn't take off those rear axle nuts this time.
I would like to re torque them to spec one day though.
