Transmission oil drain plug removal

I tried to change my transmission oil today, and found that the drain plug is torque down pretty good. I had no issue loosening the fill plug which was recommended by another prime member (in an old post) to loosen the fill plug first prior to loosening the drain plug. Luckily, I followed his advice. Since I can't get the drain plug off in my first attempt, I tighten the fill plug until I can loosen the drain plug. I had the NSX jacked up on one side, and when I pull on the ratchet wrench, I pulled myself under the NSX. Do any of you have any suggestion on how to loosen the drain plug? Thanks.

I remember the first time I changed the transmission fluid on my NSX. I had to use a small cheater bar on the handle of a 3/8" drive ratchet. Find a small pipe about a foot long that will fit over the handle of the ratchet you are using and leverage will do the rest.

I did mine in the garage, no lift, no jacks, no anything. I believe I just put the ratchet in ( maybe with a short extension, can't remember) and then used my foot to give it some serious pressure, possibly supplemented with a good kick. It is seriously tight. FYI- if you are using the Spoon magnetic drain plug set, use the one with the short post for the trans.

Go in the house, eat Wheaties, try again:):).

Seriously, this drain plug is torqued at 29 ft. lbs., just less then the oil drain plug(33 ft. lbs.) Now I am sure someone before you probably overtightened it. Get the breaker bar on it and give it a good whack with your palm:).

Make sure you are going counterslockwise, and I do not mean that in an insulting way, it is just that when you are looking up at this, it is easy to go the wrong way to loosen it, ask me how I know;).

This uses the same crush washer as the oil drain plug. If you have trouble getting the old crush washer off the drain bolt, then you know it was way overtightened.

Larry,
Thanks for the advice on the Wheaties. Had a second helping, and the second attempt was much easier (removed rear tire this time). The crush washer came out with ease (not over torque). With the tire off, I filled the the transmission oil from the wheel well. My engine cover was not open during the transmission oil change. No mess on the garage floor.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
