Track license?

I have been watching many NSX track videos and I am impressed. I would like to know if there are any licensed track drivers here on Prime? I am unfamiliar with the requirements for track driving and where to go to drive on a course?

So I'll just throw out some questions I have about what is required for a track license. Thanks!

What is the age requirement to earn a track license?
How much would it cost to register at a school?
Will the license class show up on your driver's license regarding you as a professional?
Which school is recommended for the best service?
After earning your track license, will you become a more improved driver on the street?

I would suggest you sign up for some HPDE (high performance driver education) track events first, before worrying about licensing. See how you like driving on the track. After you do that a bunch of times, you can consider taking a step up towards competition events (club races), and then getting a competition license. One step at a time.

A lot of groups conduct HPDE events on tracks all over the country. Some groups, like Chin Motorsports, BMW CCA and NASA, have events nationwide (or close to it); others operate in specific regions. And, of course, the NSX Club of America holds an all-NSX HPDE school as part of its annual NSXPO event, which moves around the country each year.

Where is "The LB"? You might ask on your regional forum for recommendations on who has a decent program of HPDE events in your area.

Just another thought.

When Im on the track for lapping/schools, Im covered by my regular insurance policy, which only excludes timed events, or preparation for timed events.

If I had a racing license, Im not sure I would be covered because they could say that I was in preparation for a timed event.

Just a thought.

I would do exactly as Ken (nsxtasy) said, start with schools and work your way up, if you want to.

And I would suggest checking with your parents first. After all, you're only 16. That said, I look forward to going to a driving school or HPDE with my kids - when they're ready.

Thanks for the replies everyone. "The LB" is Long Beach, California.

As of right now, I am just trying to get all the information I need before I begin everything else. I have no intentions of getting started right now because I am still in school and thats my first priority. Although, I will plan on signing up for high performance driver education as soon as I graduate.
