so how did you insure it on the way home? do you have to buy permits for every state you enter? I am thinking of doing the same but I am unsure about the drive back without insurance etc...Thanks.

Yeah, just thought about it now. It could be different provinces have different requirements. I just drove up an MDX in Feb. It was pretty simple. I called insurance and they said go ahead and drive it up.
