As many of you know titanium lug nuts, while being light and very strong, are well over $500 for a set. I am having a buddy of mine who works at a machine shop make me a a couple sets of these for my Z. I was just curious if there would be any interest out there for these if I could get the cost down to about $250 a set. They will be available in either a burnt look, or in just raw (silver looking) titanium. Please no flamers. This is not a post about it being cool or anything. I am just curious if there would be any actual buyers for these. If so, I can have a run of 1000 made to bring costs down to half the price of what you have to pay from companies. They are basically going to look like plain ol' open lug nuts (picture below) in either a burnt look like below or just plain silver. Please let me know if you are interested, and ONLY seriously interested. Thanks.

Or the total weight savings over stock from all four corners. That's the number I'd be interested in. I guess I could do the math, but I don't have a scale to measure one stock nut.

I will take a set @ $250 , if they look just like the pic

I'll take a set, burnt look.

In the meantime, how strong would they be, compared to say Volk or Work lug nuts? I don't want to have to worry about these breaking on me for whatever reason, know what I mean?

Good idea though!

Hey Richard,
You can feel very safe as far as these will break on you. I would love to have a set if it fits over OEM wheels though...;(

Thanks guys for all of the feedback. Like I said in my other post, I will have pictures and weight in a few weeks. I am very excited. Also, looks like having a run of 10 or 20 sets made for the NSX community is not out of the question. Thanks again guys and I will also keep everyone updated on the price as well.

Also...I no longer have one anymore, so what is the weight of a stock NSX lug nut? If someone doesn't mind. Thanks.

Ti lugnuts are true baller status. Very interested to see how much weight savings over standard & Volks lugs. I'm also all in @ $250 set.

I suggest you make the base diameter 20mm like the lug nuts that come with Volk wheels.

Some wheels have very limited space. Smaller diameter = compatible with more wheels.

I have 1st hand experience since I recently got a set of 5Zigen Pro Racer lug nuts and I had to sell them because they did not work with my wheels.

An update for everyone. The final price will be $275 (that includes shipping, insurance in the USA, and it includes the $8 pay pal fee). So basically looks like I was able to keep it at the $250 goal price =)

I will have exact weight and exact measurements in a week or so. The first 10 sets I sell will be at this price.

Pencil me into one of the 10. If the dimension is the same with my Volk lugs, be interested as per the picture in post #1.

Cool. I'll have pictures soon. Mine will be basically like the picture above, BUT the hex shape will go all the way to the top. I'm getting rid of the circle shape at the top. You'll like them =)

I agree, get rid of that circle at the end. I wonder what purpose they serve anyways...

I didn't know they can make lug nuts in HI. I've been to a couple of the more popular shops out there and would never have thought you could make these. I'm sure they'll sell a few sets if they sold them there as well :)

Interested as well thanks....be nice if they had a wheel lock option though....you would be surprised at what people will steal

Here's what it looks like without the circle on top.

So will there be a version for OEM wheels?

LOL...that's basically what mine will probably look like. Well this kind of worries me now. If there are these on ebay which are supposedly titanium as well, even though my price is a little cheaper (20 of them for 250 instead of 16 of them for 250) would you guys still be interested? I mean seriously you can just go to ebay now and pick some up lol. Little discouraged now. Let me know and thanks.

As for your question...I can make a version for OEM wheels but I would need to have more interested in those than just one person or else the cost would be huge. The ones I was planning on making would be 23mm base and a 20mm base version. What size base would you need and I can see what prices would be for you. There won't be too many people buying them, but if I can get at least like 5 people to get them I can probably get the price down. I go there today.

Oh and by the way, NO this is not in Hawaii. That's where I am from and live most of the time, but there is not a single machine shop that could do stuff like this on Kauai haha. I'm in Dallas Texa right now.

101...

I spent literally days/nights researching lug-nuts years ago, so I'll chime in.

* Blox forged Titanium lug-nuts go for (16) ~$240/shipped or (20) ~$300/shipped.

Muteki Titanium finish lug-nuts go for (20 w/ adapter-key) ~$45/shipped

Muteki "Neon" Titanium finish (heat-treated) aluminum lug-nuts go for (20 w/ adapter-key) ~$105/shipped

Hyperlug Titanium "Gold" finish aluminum lug-nuts go for (20) ~$65/shipped

5Zigen Titanium "Silver" finish aluminum lug-nuts go for (20) for ~$120/shipped

* Motorklasse Titanium lug-nuts go for (20) ~$370/shipped [kwkim -> former NSX Prime sponsor]

* T1R Titanium lug-nuts go for (20) ~$500/shipped

* GT Design Titanium lug-nuts (pictured in this thread by the O.P.) go for (20) ~$500/shipped

* = real forged or machined Titanium-alloy, not a Titanium-finish and/or heat-treated over polished chrome/stainless-steel

Weights of the lug-nuts go as follows (generally):

Magnesium-alloy < Aluminum-alloy = Titanium-alloy < Steel-alloy

Strength of the lug-nuts go as follows (generally):

Titanium-alloy > Steel-alloy > Aluminum-alloy > Magnesium-alloy

The beveled-edge ("roundish" sublimated-tip) keeps tire-irons & air-tools from chipping/scratching/marring the end of the lug-nut, IMHO it's necessary for an aesthetically appealing lug-nut unless the user doesn't care about blemishes on the appearance (ie. track-guru's, etc'). . .

Also, texturing/grooving that beveled-edge is generally recommended for ease of removal/installation (tactile-grip) for those who swap/replace wheels more often than not. . .

BTW: for the cost, durability, marginal weight-savings, long-term integrity, and seizing ("galling"), they aren't worth it. From a pro's & con's stand-point, they don't make sense. Magnesium-alloy is lighter, aluminum-alloy is the same weight & cheaper, steel-alloy can be treated to have same appearance/finish, blah-bla-bla...

But, for a show-car... why not! Go for it. . .

Anywayz...

G'luck w/ the group-buy! Produce the ones pictured in the 1st post (beveled-edge) & you'll win; if w/o the beveled-edge, why bother as Blox already makes it at the price-point you're offering (~$250'ish), I'm sure a direct-vendor/wholesaler can get them in bulk for even less... :cool:
