Hi everybody. Have a question regarding tire sizes and dash sensors. I currently have in front 205/50/16, if I get 255/40/17 size tires on the back will this trigger any traction control sensors in the dash? Thanks for any help.
You need to provide the year of the car with these types of questions. Assuming it is a 94-01,that gives ~4% larger in rear compared to 4.65% OE. So it should be fine from a TCS perspective.

It is more questionable for a '91, which expects the rear to be 7.75% larger than the front. I would at least use a 265 rear and better a 275 if it will fit (correctly) on your wheels.

Your front tires are severely oversized. Don't compound the error by getting oversized rears. You should be using 215/45-16 or 205/45-16 in front, and 245/40-17 or 255/40-17 in the rear. I recommend replacing all four tires.

Its sometimes surprising to me how often Ken has to repeat this. I took the question as posed, which asked a narrow question. In any event, there is no problem with 265/40-17 rears. And I'm not so sure that 205/50-16 can be characterized as severely oversized. They would reduce radial clearance by a little less than 6mm compared to the 94-01 size and less than 4mm compared to the 02+ size. Given how much people drop their cars, I would be surprised to hear that it rubs if at stock height.
