tire fitment: 17/18 YOKO AVS Sport ?

Manuel, do you have any rubbing with your 17/17 set up front? Your car is lowered, correct?

I am considering using this wide of a tire on my fronts, as with the demise of the S02 225/35, it seems like the only other sizes available now are 215/40 and 235/40.

Need more braking power in the front.

Definite rubbing on the front - on the inside rear edge at full lock (parking lot/paddock) and under hard braking (road course). Ask our friend HomeDepotNSX about this

Yoko does not make the AVS Sport in 215/40-17, which IMO starts looking puny relative to the rears

My car IS moderately lowered, using Comptech/Eibach progressive rate springs (drop approx 1-1.25")

I have a set of AVS Sport in 235/40-17 and 275/35-18. Any 235/40-17 tire up front will rub a bit if the car is lowered. Unfortunately you don't have many other good choices with the AVS Sports if you want to keep TCS.

Lud --

Is your car currently lowered? And do you experience rubbing?

It seems as if rubbing is going to be an unfotunate result of the 235's.

To minimize this problem, I am using the following measures:
- Adjustable height suspension: I am using my TEIN Type-RA suspension to be lowered only .5-.75 inches less in front than stock.
- high offset wheel. The farther way from the inner fender the wheel is, the least it will rub on the inside (this may then lead to rubbing on the outside.

I was considering going with a wide fender from Japan, and may do this in the future if this becomes a problem on the outer fender lip.

I once accidently got a 225/45ZR17 tire from the tirerack. BIG TIME rubbing. However, the diameter of that tire was 25 in vs. 24.4 of the 235/40 tire.

I will most likely go with 235/40zr17 and 275/40zr18 S03 PP tires on my new set of Fikses.

Yes my car is lowered and yes they rub. With only .5" lowering it would not be as bad but would probably still rub a little bit.

Be careful how far you go offsetting the wheels further out. You can buckle the lip of your fender if the tire contacts it on suspension compression.

275-40-18 MIGHT rub in the rear (275-40-17 is already a big meat). Suggest 275-35-18, which is what I use.

I've seen 235 fronts actually crack the fenders (cover-up stickers still being selected

chris, I know at least 4 people running 235's up front, and they all rub lock to lock. they have all reached differing levels of frustration with this, from ignoring, to pounding on inner wheelwell components with a hammer (I dont recommend), to removing innner wheel well components. just thought you would want to know....

I contacted Comptech about tires sizes for 17x8 and 18x10 wheels and they suggested 215/40/17 and 275/35/18. They used to recommend 235/40/17 up front but they said it causes too much rubbing on full lock turns.

Between 3 track days and about 650 miles of moderate street driving, these tires have destroyed 1 set of front fender liners.

Car has Comptech/Eibach springs.

It's good to have this back up.

Yes, that size is too tall. I speak from experience when TireRack accidently sent the wrong sizes.

215/40-17 seems to be the most common & highly available front tire size, but is a bit too disproportionately narrow in relation to the rear (oversteer)& looks slightly stretched on the common 17x8 fronts on the NSX. I think the perfect combo is 225/40-17 & 275/35-18. I have this combo & believe that the Nitto Extreme 555 is the only manufacturer of this size. 225/35-17 is to short a sidewall up front & same goes for running 285/30-18 in the rear. Has anyone tried 235/35-17 up front?

I too have the 235/40/17 in front.. I do rub if I turn to 75% of full lock to lock.. right now my drivers side inner fender is rubbed off and my tire has chew marks (or lines) on the outside.

Someone told me to adjust the CASTER and it should not do that.. Yet I dont see how that is possible.

I did check for a 225/40/17 and as QDKSLVR stated only NITTO makes it (NT555 Extreme) yet I havent heard too many good things about the tire.. maybe I might get a set and do a review the tires (full set) is $1200 which isnt bad Yet I wouldnt want to waste it if I get lousy handling.

I too also think that 215 is too short of a tire since when I saw one on another NSX It just didnt seem like it fit.

Are you still using the AVS Sport in these sizes ?? Any feedback on performance and longevity??

TIA.

Also, 235-40-17 front is less likely to rub then 215-45-17 ??
