Tinted windows?

As hot as it is here in Houston, I don't tint my cars. Personally, I don't like the way it looks. And yes, that's my opinion. I think cars look cleaner without tint. However, if keeping your car cooler is a priority over looks(subjective to your opinion), you may want to tint. :)

i am at the moment considering tinting my windows too. mainly because i'm kinda getting tired of people always staring at me whenever i drive. kina getting annoying. but yeah i agree with NSX FoYoAss that it doesn't look good (to me).

to tint or not to tint?

I have tinted my NSX. I went with 35% all the way around.
I didn't want the super dark look. With the top off, you really only see a slight diffence. Much darker at night with the top on.

Try it and if you don't like your ride with a tint, then you could always get it removed.

Of course my NSX is black and I knew from the get go that I was going to get it tinted. I wanted the "smoked" look.

p.s.

Check out NSXPO pics and you could see many NSX with tinted windows.

Side window tinting is illegal in California unless a doctor states that you need it for medical reasons (eye or skin sensitivity). Even if you elect this alternative, it is illegal to drive the car after dark. I was the fortunate recipient of a citation from female CHP officer whom I'm sure was just jealous as ___ of the car. Anyway, it's a fix-up ticket with a 30 day window, so I just stripped the tinting off.

The difference in heat and light in the car was very pronounced, but we've gotten used to it.

JMHO - I think the NSX is one of the better looking cars when tinted.

I believe I have 35% all around. In my state that is the darkest I can go. I would go darker if I could though as I don't like people being able to see inside the car too easily.

I went 35% all around on my black-on-black T, and I personally think it's too dark. You lose some of the defining lines of the NSX, like the pillars, which it just runs black to black to black.

It definitely helps with the sun in summer, but I think I'm going to strip it off the side windows, at the very least, and go with 50% instead.

I may go down to 50% on the back, too, as you really don't need much to make that area look dark. As it is right now, there's kind of a weird effect with the inner partition window, where everything inside the rear hatch is so dark that all you see from outside is the angled partition window reflecting the sky. It looks like a big white wall inside the hatch. I don't like it.

That's my two cents.

PS: My icon to the left is pre-tint, in case you were wondering.

It depends on what color your car is. For dark paint, tinting looks good. For light paint, tinting is ....owners choice. I opted for the 50% and have not drawn attention to it. I even had a couple of motorcycle cops stop to look at the car (parked) and they didn't say a thing about the tint. (California law states that the drivers and front passengers windows will not be tinted).

no laws prohibiting front window tints in Fl..

I think there is a limit on darkness.. might be around 25% or somewhere around there.

I think I will pull the trigger next week on it.. after looking at pics.. i like what I see!

I won't go that dark I think.. 35% sounds about right.. so the black doesn't blend with the car..

thanks everyone!

i went 5% all the way around w/ no tint on the windshield. I love the look and the car temperature is notably less.

Its very very dark though. My windows have to be down to back up when its dark.

edit: I was thinking 5% was really light, not really dark. Mah bad!

that's too dark for me.. with my luck, i would drive out of the tint place and get a ticket..

that's limo tint and probably not legal in Fl.

Spyderman33,

Make sure to see the difference of smoked vs. the reflective look. The more expensive tints have the titanium look, so that even at 50% you might get that titanium reflective look.

The lower cost tint have the "smoked" look.

Good luck and by the way, My NSX is black and tan like yours.
There are some pics of the car under FuryNsx's tread in picture Gallery. If you look closely on fridays pics, Fury's and I are side by side. FuryNsx has no tint and I have the 35% tint.

Hope this helps. :)

that does help.. thanks..

i see you have a 99 Explorer as well.. funny..

Glad to help.

As for 1999 explorer. I know, my daily ride. Getting rid of it soon. Let me know if you need parts. I might be able to help you. I have upgraded the stereo system, exhust (flowmaster to improve gas mileage), k & n filter and 18 inch(mck) chrome wheels.

I have stock speakers. If you want them there yours.

Heading down to the sedan. Need a change of pace.

Good luck and send me a pic of your NSX after the tint job.

many advantages for tinting . I personally love the look. It also protects your interior fron those nasty uv rays (self destructing tint), if you window is smashed the tint does help hold it together better, plus cooler interior temperature less a/c use!

Titanium type tint is the way to go, the cheaper tints go that nasty purple colour after they break down substantially. Dont skimp on your nsx!

the top of the line tint at a local shop which does alot of cars for an exotic dealer charges $130...

lifetime warranty..

i didn't go cheap on non of my other cars, I'll never go cheap on the NSX..

I do! Tinted it smoky silver because the day is very hot here. Night time you can see through it but when the light shine on it you won't be able see the inside. View form inside is still as good at night as when not puting the tint on.:D

I disagree, but only on the basis of looks and "stealth" from the nit-picking police officers.

I spent the extra money on titanium/metallic/reflective type tint on my daily driver Accord. The reflective/mirror'd look will get you pulled over in no time. Ask me how I know? (the day after I got them done, then again 2 weeks later) Especially when it's cloudy outside. Sure, it has lasted a long time... but not too many people like the mirror'd look (especially the police). I've seen it on an NSX, it doesn't look as good.

Pay for the highest quality tint that's not reflective. That's the way to go. Most are expected to not fade for at least 5 years. And while most NSXs are in a garage or under the covers, it should last a lot longer. That's what I have done to my NSX. Mine is 15% Rear/30% front.

When getting your NSX windows tinted, ask the installer to be careful with the rubber guides... or whatever you call them... the thing right next the door handle and above the side rear view mirrors. Mine has a slight tear and I've seen other NSXs with the same tear.

You can see some pictures of ss_md, K2's tint as well as my tint side-by-side at FuryNSX's NSXPO 2003 Day 3 pages.
http://www.furyxx.0catch.com/pages/NSXPO2003_day3.html

Those pictures were taken with the tops off. They look pretty dark in pictures!

Hope that helps...

[EDIT: Whoops, K2 rolled up his windows only for this shot. http://www.furyxx.0catch.com/images/NSXPO_2003/Day3-Friday/DSC04757.JPG]

There is an added bonus to the above picture... Scott/ss_md was actually caught with his (T) top off! :D

I never had a problem with the police with four years of driving my car, including breathlizer checks and defect stops.

You may misunderstand what i mean by the tint i had. It wasnt reflective, it had a slight metallic sheen look. The titanium type refers to filament type layers within the tint, moreso than an actual aesthetic reflective metal look. The tint was called F1 supplied by tint a car in australia. Its perfectly legal in oz. Ask me how i know. Everyone loved the look on my car. It would look awesome on an nsx.

As with all legal issues, check your states laws regarding what is legal, not from experiences one or two of us has had.
