hi guys,
just want to know how big a job it is to change the timing belt.
I'm thinking of getting a kevlar belt.
can the belt be changed without removing the engine?
thanks

Yes, it can be changed without removing the engine, but you're gonna wish you had a few extra joints on your arms

You need to take off the right engine mount and jack the engine up a little bit to get the covers off. Also its a pain to see the alignment marks on the rear cams with the engine installed.

If you have changed a timing belt on any other car - this one is harder than that. This one's the worst of any I've done and if you get it wrong you can destroy the engine. There are a lot of good write-ups here on the procedure. Do yourself a favor and replace the harmonic balancer while you're doing it (they have been known to separate with destructive results).
Good luck!

I do all of them in the car if you put the engine at top dead center you can put drill bits or Allen wrenches in the holes for the cams to hold them in place while you take the belt off. And you shouldn't need to take the mount off you just have to take the covers out a certain way

thanks guys,
I'm going to be running a sos supercharger and intercooler, my timing belt has done 30k miles. i will have 400 whp.
can i get some opinions on whether or not i should change the belt.
thanks

30k miles over how many years? The belt deteriorates over time even if the car is not driven.
