Ticket for no front license plate.

Look, I live here in Maryland where the law also states you must have both plates. But under NO circumstance am I going to do permanent damage to my front bumper by drilling into it...and destroy the front appearance of this exotic for an ugly license plate. In fact, ALL my nice cars never wore a front plate.

How much does it cost for me to do this ?? Roughly one-to-two "no front license plate" $50 dollar tickets a year from getting pulled over. Some years I didn't get pulled over even once though. For me, this "consequence" is more than worth me NOT having to install front plates....so pyscologically I don't get pissed at all when it happens*:) ...and THATS how u should look at it.;)

Dave,

You are correct-- a front license plate infraction is indeed a "moving violation" in Washington State. It will go on your driving record and will even show up on the abridged insurance driving record!

Will your insurance company care about this? Likely not, but I'm sure it depends on the company. Hell, they have studies correlating credit ratings to driving risk, so I wouldn't be totally shocked to see something similar for a front license plate. Though bad credit is far more common than no front plate, so I doubt anyone has ever done such a study.

From talking with the state insurance commissioners office, there are no regulations or laws prohibiting your insurance company from raising your rates over it. So if you're paraniod, you should fight it.

I have successfully contested such an infraction and won. Private me if you want some suggested course of arguments.

NSXTASY_MD,

No, installing front license plate will never do any visible permanent damage to the NSX. Even the OEM front brackets are mounted underneath the top portion of the bumper. Other than that, I 120% agree with you paying $50 tickets a year for no front plate is totally worth it.

blown1981,

You're not the only one. Just like NSXTASY_MD pointed out, Maryland also requires a front plate and so does Mass as where I live.

Well the front license bracket, which I have on my car, does leave a mark in the front cover's finish on some cars after being in service for a time. I have vanity plates so I like having it on my car.
If I had to do it over again I would make something else for a bracket or use the Dali Mount so it doesn't touch the upper cover. For me it's simple. It's a condition you accept when you apply for the privledge of operating a vehicle on public roads.

I got a ticket 2 days ago for not having a front tag on the NSX. BTW it also came with a 118MPH in a 55MPH for a $530 fine.

LOL!! I just got home from court 5 minutes ago, literally. Charges can be happily resolved after conferencing with a police prosecutor ;)

Radar doesn't need a specific part of the car to bounce off. In fact, radar can't even be pinpointed to a specific car, since the beam disperses so much. It is up to the officer to determine which car caused the reading (which is also why radar is more easily attacked in court).

If you meant to say laser instead of radar, I'm sure a good amount of cars or trucks have radiators that are very good for getting a good laser reading. However, the front license plate is always (assuming that they are required by law) an easy and uniform thing to aim for.

actually i disagree. radar bounces back a lot more because of the radiator, front license plate, etc.

I was actually looking into getting something that jammed radar signals and was actually reading the FAQ section here at NSX Prime.

"Radar absorbing paint and bras never caught on because the radiator is the biggest reflector of radar energy in most cars"

I had temporarily had the K40 diffuser installed, today it was replaced with the new model Blinder M20. I also have a buddy of mine having the Escort ZR3 which is also top rated being installed with the Escort SR7 in his S55. They can't utilize the remote install of the V1 because of the windshield material in the high end Mercedes. These are some of the best solutions to Laser on the market today. JMHO:cool:

Son of a B***** !!!!! Just as I'm talking about the price of NOT installing any front plates and how it's worth it...I JUST got a ticket last night while going to that "Cactis Cantina" bar/nightclub in Glen Burnie,MD area (my first time ever there). LOLOLOLOLOL

ChecK this out...this PIG see's me on the oppposite side of the highway from which he's traveling (at night)...By the time his pressed A$$ turns around to follow and come get me I'm already pulled in the nightclubs parking handing the keys of my car to the Valet...with my lady friend waiting so we can go into the club....he comes out of his car...practically follow's us into the club (and NO we weren't rushing or anything to avoid him) to get my information and give me the "no front licence plate" ticket...

I'm not annoyed at "paying the price," just at how much of a player hating idiot he looked like pulling into the club parking chasing after me (PRACTICALLY INSIDE THE CLUB) to issue the 50 dollar ticket  "sigh"

Now, it's my personal mission to never install one...lol;)

I live in a small town and know most of the police officers in the area. I had the following conversation with a Highway Patrol officer yesterday (not this exact dialogue, but the key points went roughly like this)

I'ma tell you right now Tom...that cop was one of the few exceptions...a true automotive enthusiast OR an older more mature officer who doesn't have something to prove. Realistically MOST cops are rude, annoying, arrogant, losers, that never made it in life, or socially, and now have something to prove with their 35-40K a year jobs/artificial power positions. Hence, their insecurities are fueled even more when they see a really nice car or exotic...particularly when they REALLY CAN'T relate to ever owning one on a cops salary.

I literaly overheard a conversation between a cop and his partner outside a Tigermart gas station once, when a red ferrari 360 modena was being swarmed by a group of estatic people while at the pump (with a hot blond in the passengers seat to boot). Their exchange was something to the extent "look at this rich asshole in his little red sportscar thinking he owns this town, why don't you say we wake him up" and then proceeded to give him a 50 dollar no front license plate tickets right there in front of everyone. I was sooo pissed when I witnessed that (even though the guy had no relation to me) that I HAD to approach the cops and say something. (I said thats pretty pathetic how you guys must try to ruin someone's day to feel better about yourselfs, I heard what you guys were talking about earlier) Then they threatend to lock me up if I wouldn't "shut up and walk away".....

....the funny thing is how bad I could rearrange the pepsqeek's face if he didn't have a gun, this pig was truly pathetic. .....I value life, and am not one to senselessly harm another man in any way, but let me just put it this way.....I can understand why "some" cops get shot and killed like pigs in the street.:o

*My apologies to the "few" that are stand-up(cops)*

Wow! I wish our tickets were that cheap. Mine was $101. I sent it in for mitigation (as always) and just received a reduction notice for $80.. "pay it now, don't come to court," basically.
I don't hate the law as much as the damn cops who enforce it. (In regards to petty offences such as this)

Someone should design a bracket that folds the plate up when "not needed" and folds it down for those special occasions. Controlled by a switch from the drivers seat.
How many people would buy that?

if it costs more than a front license plate ticket then no :p

I remembered there's one in Japan that as soon as you drive more than 40-45mph, the plate will kind of "retract" because of the air movement... that's pretty neat bracket.. but I think last time I checked for it, it costs somewhere around $200 usd and actually nobody in US sell them.....

but the whole idea behind it is not for cosmetics reason but more air to intercooler instead of blocking it, and also avoid the speeding camera......
