Throttle Position Sensor

I've had a problem with mine being off.

It's code 7 if you get a check engine light.

You need a multimeter to check/adjust it properly. Attach the mutlimeter on to YEL/WHT and GRN/WHT. It should be .5v at full close (no throttle) and 4.8v at WOT. (Wide Open Throttle)

If it's not right on you can loosen the adjusting bolts and rotate it to adjust the voltage. (like a distributor) IF it's way off theres either a short between the sensor and the ECU or your TPS is toast.. Unfortunatly you can't buy just the TPS from honda...they make you buy the entire throttle body!! I've only heard voltage being off or the TPS physically broken....never simply going bad. What problems are you having? A TPS that is off can cause hesitation at cruising speed...especially getting on/off the throttle.

Net,just curious why did you decide to check out the throttle sensor.are you thinking of running a zex kit?

I really am not seeing any problem like that. The only thing that I see is I am having trouble starting the car on the first crank.. but it almost alwasys starts on the second.

I took the car in to get the tires and brake pads put on and the mechanic said, "do you notice the problem with the accelerator".. I sure never have... he followed it by "where is the engine in that car" .. so he is probably just a total freaking moron. Nonetheless, it caused me to wonder if I do have a problem.

I don't think TPS would be an issue for the cranking. Start with simple things. When have you last changed your spark plugs, and what do you have installed now?

Cheers,

I have only owned the car for 4 months, I have no idea when they were last done or what is there now.

Check your fuel pressure. I had a bogus fuel pump that give me weak fuel pressure. It ALWAYS took 2 attempts to start it. The first one basically primed it...second time I tried it always started right away.

NetViper,

You are going to NSXPO right? If the car seems OK to you, you will have a group of the best experts there.

You can get the real 100% diagnosis next week!

Use him for tires and brake pads, not for any service that requires knowledge about the NSX.
