Thermostat - lowering temp - beneficial or bad for ECU

I'm not sure if it has been replaced at all. Bought the car with 59k and the previous owner kept no records and didn't have the car serviced at an Acura dealer.

I'm just gonna replace it anyway... it'll give me peace of mind:D

My family has owned many hondas and acuras in the past. Lets say out of 10 cars - we had to do the thermostat in at least 4-5. They gotta put thermostat replacement in the 60k service.

There are people who are clueless when that needles hits the RED mark (probaly not NSX owners however)........ blowing the headgasket and maybe warping the head.

I've been trying to pay attention to how fast my NSX warms up. My car is garage kept so it does stay about 15 degrees warmer than the outside temp.

I also have concerns that the car is taking too long to warm up. 15 minutes into my drive today (about 35 degrees F) and the water needle was still on the lowest hash mark!!! About 25 minutes into the drive the needle was in the middle but if I turn the heat on the needle drops again.

Is this doing damage to the engine? I always heard that warming the car up in the driveway is not always recommended, I usually only sit for a minute before I start my commute. Should I let the car warm up more before I leave???

It is highly likely that your thermostat is stuck in the open position. My car (not an NSX however) was doing the exact same thing, taking waaay too long to warm up and temp needle dropping when I turned on heat. Replaced thermostat and all is nice and toasty now. Warms up in like 4-5 minutes also.
