So far, the only part to fail on my '96 in my 8 years of ownership was the original thermostat. Honda over-designed it using a rubber ring/washer around the moving disc, whereas the rest of the world relies on the simple metal-to-metal contact to control the water flow. The failure in mine was the rubber ring mushroomed off one side of the disc; as a result, the thermostat stuck open. In other posts Larry B noted this as a common failure.
I put in the correct temperature thermostat from NAPA (a metal-to-metal design), and its been working perfectly for a couple of years.
