The ultimate sin: BROKEN GUAGE NEEDLE!!

I accidently broke my oil pressure guage today. The needle broke at the shaft and now I am clueless on how to fix it. I've never been so completely stumped before. Chris from SOS was NOT kidding when he said these suckers are fragile. The worst part is it looks like I have to tear apart the neighboring guage just to fix this one.

Does any body have a clue? Do I need a new guage now? In the meantime I am going to make a DUNCE cap for myself and face the corner.

When I had my guage face installed the guy at the shop did the same thing and he had to buy a new guage, sorry.

Good luck,

Gary

I thought glueing was possible until I found out that ONLY the little needle moves, not the plastic casing that surrounds it. Of course I found this out after supergluing the whole 9 yards together. I have torn this thing down to its bare componants and I still have no idea of how to fix it. It looks like I'm going to have to get a new NSX to replace the broken needle thingy. Does anyone have a spare NSX to replace mine?

You will likely need to buy a new gauge.

The combo gauge is available from Acura. One of the year Accords uses the same accessory gauge motors as the NSX (I think it is 1996 Special Edition - the year right before the body style change). However, the needle is completely different than the NSX.

I have one of those needles around somewhere, I'll try to keep an eye out for it.

In the meantime, do NOT pull out the needle. The only way to remove the head with out breaking the motor is to heat it up (ie. heat gun) and use something like a microvise to grab the shaft and pry off the head with out moving the shaft.

Yea, I have already called Acura. Not as expensive as I thought, but I will be down for a week at least. The needle itself did not break. The shaft rather (to clear up any confusion).

I called up Acura to see how much it would cost to "get the shaft", but they said I needed the whole cluster (f#@k).
