Too bad you didn't post this earlier. I just spent 5 hours yesterday in an Oakland courtroom to plead "not guilty". I am still going to try to request the trial by mail after reading that. I'll let you know how it turns out. I don't see why it wouldn't work, or at least increase your chances.
