Hi, All..... I'm pretty new here. Finally became a member as of yesterday. I just wanted to give a shout out to all the members and to nsxprime. Anyways, I know that this might sound silly to most but i'm not that hardcore around the engine bay as I care to admitt. I guess I'll start of by this problem that I've recently noticed. Everytime I start my nsx after it's been sitting for alwhile, I can smell gas. But once it warms up the smell would go away. Could it be my injectors? A friend said that it's because i'm running rich. What can i do?.......

Oh, before I forget. Is there any members here that lives in or near the state of Minnesota? Or know of a trusted shop with the know how regarding the nsx? Thanks.

Welcome to prime.

Interesting question. A couple of clarifications might help provide a good answer. When you smell gas on start-up, are the windows up or down? Are you in a confined space or outdoors? How long does the car have to sit before this happens at start-up. And finally, how many miles on your NSX?

Your car might be just running pig rich at start-up. This is pretty common. It could just be the ECU doing its thing or it could be that you do have a leaky injector.

Another possibility is a saturated charcoal canister or a problem with its purge system. The purpose of this canister is to filter fumes from the fuel tank. If it is saturated, you will smell fumes inside the car, especially with the windows closed, when the system purges fuel tank fumes into the canister. I've had this issue with several older cars I have owned. Maybe someone with more knowledge of this system can explain it better or correct any errors in my description.

Thanks for the welcome, It's great to finally be here.......... I only smell it when the windows are down and the mileage is high on my car, about 160k. I started to noticed the smell after I'd change my spark plugs. Thinking that might be the case, I'd opened her up again just to make sure all 6 are tightly fitted in place. Which they were. Again, this only happens on the 1st start up after it's been sitting for alwhile.

Or injector O rings.... those can break down over time. Its very important to replace those - if they're not replaced it could cause a fire (in extreme cases)

Welcome to prime!

I live in the southern suburbs of St Paul.

Had a very similar issue shortly after my purchase as well. I ended up letting the car run for a sec. in my driveway and rubbing my fingers all around the injector the find out If I had a leak. I then uninstalled the injectors to find one of my O rings was cracked. Lastly I uninstalled them and sent them to RC for brand new O rings and a good cleaning. They returned them to me in about a week, along with a flow chart. Reinstalled them, no more smell of gas.
