I changed my dash up somewhat, here is a picture of the 'final' setup:
Electronics include:
-Stack ST8130 Cluster
-Blitz Dual Turbo Timer and Boost Gauge (DTT IV)
-Shift-E Sequential Shift Light (steering wheel mounted)
-Beltronics RX75 Plus Radar Detector and Laser Jammer
-Kenwood 7" touchsceen in navpod
-Kenwood V500 Carportal
-Garmin G510 navi (kenwood)
-Audiovox mini-tuner XM (kenwood)
-Tanner switch panel (push button starter, switches for seatbelts, laser jammer)
-Schroth autocontrol ACM harnesses with electronic cable reel
-Hella Dual Airhorns
CCU display has been changed to green to match the cluster, also, the door lighting has been eliminated.
The dome light is still un-modified
Focusing on the audio aspect of the setup, I have all of the features I want (XM radio, navi, ipod/video, AM/FM), and could integrate any additional items (bluetooth, cd changer, externally controlled devices) with relative ease - the V500 is essentially a stereo without an interface, it's an amplifier-sized unit that can be stashed away, then controlled with a screen in the navpod.
For people looking for maximum integration, as I said in a different thread, you could easily retain your OEM stereo and console with a V500 solution, the V500 would then control your audio sources (bluetooth, am/fm, cd changer, xm, navi, rear view camera, etc.), and the factory deck would control the car's speakers, and volume modulation. The car would appear to have a factory solution, with an OEM navpod.
In my application, I am using the V500 as a standalone solution, using it to turn on the factory amplifiers and having its preouts connected directly to the factory stereo harness. Volume modulation is done either through the touchscreen, or on the monitor's volume hard buttons.
