The Current State of NSX Prime: My Take

Well, there have been a ton of comments lately that imply this site is going downhill. I disagree with this. I consider myself a veteran of this site. Although my name only states I have been here a few years, I can assure you I have been here since the beginning (just did not register before I actually started a serious search for my NSX).

Here is my history with NSX PRIME:

1. Utilized the FAQ and archived posts to review the ins and outs of the NSX prior to purchase.

2. Purchased my NSX from a Prime member from a Prime for sale ad (had to fly to San Francisco to buy the car but I was comforatable knowing the car was as described as a result of my interactions on Prime with the owner).

3. Found out how when/how much/and what dealer to have my car serviced at (note:actually not the closest Acura dealer to me. I have to drive quite a ways to get there)

4. Found out where Dallas NSXers meet through this site. (This used to be somewhat secretive some time ago.)

5. I have also purchased and sold parts through this website and will continue to do so.

This site answers the crucial questions that every anxious potential exotic car owner has. Can I afford an NSX? Can I afford to drive it? How much is yearly maintenance? Can I fit in it? How fast is it? Could I please meet up with you owners to sit/ride in it? Could someone please look at this car for me which is 2000k miles from me?

As one can see, I have used this site to a great extent. There are no mods or track experiences that could ever enrich my NSX ownership as this site has. We have tons of owners with tons of experience that are willing to share those experiences. Furthermore, there is a support base of experts here: Larry Bastanza, Mark Basch, etc..
I think it would be hard to create a better site dedicated to a particular car.

So...we have a few long-standing "veterans" leave. People come and go from sites all of the time. I don't think it necessarily reflects a downward trend in the quality of that site, and I certainly do not think that is the case with this site. This is just my opinion, but I think that some of these veterans have chased off more new people than the other way around. I would rather have new people asking "stupid" questions than "veterans" spewing their self riteous im-in-a-bad mood , check the FAQ, garbage any day

Many state that this site has gone down due to the "25k" entry price. I am sorry but "25k" is not a small sum of money for a "toy". But maybe they use them as their only car? Well, I do, and I can tell you this: It is cheaper to buy a second car and drive the NSX on weekends (NSX fricking chews through those tires  )

Do a check on auto trader and you will find that you can buy an early 90's Viper, Lotus, and Porsche for 25k. As we know, these cars are not cheap to operate and I would venture a guess that most potential owners know that buying a new 25k Accord will not have the same type of expenses a Viper or NSX would (which is why I really don't see that many "kids" on this site. If you want to see a lot of "kids" on a site, go to Ferrarichat).

Anyway, I thought I would just throw my opinion out there.

Well said !!! By the way, My NSX puts me in the highest insurance bracket that exists for performance cars.

This site is AWESOME... if it weren't for NSX PRIME, I would have a different "TOY" today.

Yes, you do get some people that get a little over the line once in a while, but I signed up here to get "Educated" on what my car is capable of and how much more I can enjoy it day-in, day-out.

I've also met some very cool and mature folks here which is more than I can say for "some" of the forums I am a member of.

Yes, i'm a Noob to NSX PRIME and know little about how it "used" to be, but it still IS the ONLY PLACE I GO to get info from the "Experienced" ones.

This place is a WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE regardless of the "MINOR" insecurities I see from time to time....

Thanks to the Mods and Creators of this site for keeping it UP and running for "US" NSX Enthusiasts.

Mike

I agree completely...this site has far fewer attitude laden individuals than most other auto based sites......Go look at that 4x4 site that had people calling that kid's parents and following him around because he was a cheat in the classifieds,.....much more four letter words and mojo there.....

I have had disagreements with some persons on this site at times..(SndSoul..KO-NSX) to name a couple but we are all cool now its just a social certainty that persons are not going to agree all the time...

Yep. That's what I'm getting at in my thread. Well put.

Yea, i saw that 4x4 site and read that whole thread!!!! Our disagreements are never serious enough to go as far as that went. Grown men wanted to whup a 21 old for something they had nothing to do with. They even posted pics of his house, parents names and a few phone numbers!!! Granted the kid was a complete idiot, people shouldn't flex behind keyboards over 110 bucks. NOBODY(even you zahntech:biggrin: ) i've ever posted to on Nsxprime has been that ignorant. Honestly i enjoy our debates and use them constructively to learn about others opinions on issues. Kinda like a talk show, but typing. My only gripe would be the old homepage. Just because a person may disagree with how i feel, or what i say, doesn't mean i don't like them. Respect is always first.

I like this site. When even the smallest thing rattles on my car, the first thing I do is come running for the internet because I know the people on Prime can help me out. I am not a car expert, nor will I ever be one. I am learning many ins and outs about my car, but I really hope the 'salty vets' stick around, even anonymously, to chime in when a problem just isn't answered. It's a car site. There should be no trash talking or dime dropping (ie the Bridgewater ordeal and the Carfax scandal). The thought that these things are happening is rediculous.

I digress... This site is great and one of the most useful tools I have for my NSX. I hope it stays that way...

This is my most visited site. Wealth of info and majority of people who are just plain helpful. Yes, I am consider 'new' to his forum- as a member, but I promise you I won't be sticking around if I know its a waste of time, like some other forum I've been a member of.
Of course, there will be disagreements but hey! people have their own perspectives on just about everything

I've also been on this site for quite some time. I waited a year and a half after I got my car to join and was already lurking a few years before then. My take is that the demographics are changing and a younger group is coming aboard. That's what happens with all cars. Some good, some bad. Whatever, life goes on.

I am a relatively recent registered user at NSX Prime but a long-time "lurker" here. I have been following the NSX ever since its initial press coverage in 1990 and have been almost religiously collecting information on it since that time. Two years ago I finally began a serious search for my first used NSX. And a short time thereafter I was able to purchase one thanks to the "For Sale" section at these forums.

As cars are one of my hobbies along with computers, I have been a member at numerous other automotive forums pretty much since the advent of the online forum format (in the pre-vBulletin days).

As online forums have been growing in popularity among all age groups (especially the younger crowd) I have noticed steady rise in the amount of "riff-raff" that tends to clutter an otherwise informative resource. I speak with some personal experience after having been stalked and physically threatened through a contact in a now defunct automotive forum. We should all be careful with the nature and amount of personal information that we supply on a public forum.

However I really think that NSX Prime is one of the few remaining websites that has been relatively untouched. Perhaps it is the very limited focus of this site - after all it is focused on a particular model car which for the most part has had really only one overall design generation. Its not an all encompassing "Acura owner" site nor does it have quite the scope and range of design iterations as for example a mustang or corvette.

That being said, with the booming "import" enthusiast crowd and the notoriety of the NSX in that arena it is only to be expected that we may experience the occasional intrusion. I think that we should not overreact by throwing in the towel or bringing drastic changes to limit access but rather be patient and ignore the troublemakers. When they realize that their intrusions are falling to the wayside they will move on to other forums where they will get the type of reaction that they want.

To all those involved in keeping this resource available I send my heartfelt thanks and wish you a very happy holiday season!!!
